I wish I could buy what Chris Dodd is saying: I can't.
Dodd is insisting that even though he knew that he was put in a special VIP category by the slimes at Countrywide, it didn't raise any red flags for him. Countrywide is one of the worst offenders in the sub-prime loan crisis. Senator Dodd is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.

I don't think Senator Dodd did anything crooked, but it sure looks like a conflict of interest.

1. Since his rate is in line with the competition, why would he think he is getting special treatment?
"The 4.25 percent five-year adjustable rate mortgage on their Washington home and 4.5 percent 10-year adjustable rate mortgage on their Connecticut home fell within the range of competitive rates that others with similar credit histories were receiving at the time."

That's kind of a lame special program.

2. Your facts will be missed completely by the GOP-controlled media...
...the story will be that Democrats are complicit in the mortgage loan scandal.

Facts have never stopped a republican from spewing their agenda.

3. GOP-controlled media?
We have seemingly intelligent DUers who claim to be Democrats acting like they are falling for the line of BS and regurgitating it as this thread shows.

I recognize all those words, but I don't know what they mean in this sequence.

5. More Bait & Switch
Isn't it interesting that this story came up once the heat was turned up on Phil Gramm and the other lobbyists/profiteers who work for Gramps. Typical repugnican bait and switch game where you find a Democrat with a conflict and turn that into a shitstorm...meanwhile your guy skates away.

Now this issue falls flat when you try to find a pro quo for the quid...what did Countrywide get from Dodd in return for this loan? Was it given before a key vote where his up or down would make the difference? Did he lobby other committee members on behalf of Countrywide?

I'll say when I first heard it, it alarmed me, but the more I'm reading it's again another GOOP game in cahoots with the corporate media.

7. Yeah, like the phone calls we get that we have been awarded
the republican businessman of the year it means nothing but it sure makes one feel good enough to donate and vote republican since the Democrats did not give us any awards!!

being in the Countrywide VIP program is probably another of their frauds to make the applicant feel special and that they could not get a better deal anywhere else!!!

8. I've always liked Dodd, but
he's shoveling total BS. How could the head of the Banking Committee not know what was going on. It defies logic.
