Bullshit on CNN just now about marijuana
They had some idiot on with Heidi Collins saying that marijuana potency is up 175%, usage up 475%, trips the the ER up 130%.
That marijuana is very addictive. That marijuana causes all kinds of physical and mental problems. Bullshit. The stuff she was spouting flies in the face of the governments own studies.

2. yep, you said it... flies in the face of science as well
Marijuana is a hallucinogen, and therefore non-addictive and non-toxic. That is, you cannot become addicted, nor can you die from the act of smoking pot.

11. It's actually a hypnotic. THC is a hallucinogenic. But CBD is a sedative.
When you put the two together you get a hypnotic.

Once you have the disease of life. It's not a matter of if you are going to die. Only when.

27. Mommy figures out lil Johnny is stoned. So she rushes him to the emergency room for the antidote.
Edited on Wed Jun-18-08 09:03 AM by Wizard777
Of course THC is a hallucinogenic. So some people will have to go to the emergency room to inform a doctor that their hair hurts and he needs to make it stop right now. They also need a nurse to help them figure out why it is that you can brush your teeth. But you can't comb them. Oh yeah, we get some really good stuff around here.

while trying to swallow a whole bag of Pepperidge Farm Stuffing.

It wasn't pretty, but he didn't need to go to the emergency room.

Then we found some frozen brownies.

Now, wouldn't THAT be some interesting research to do.

24. I think most of it just comes down to ready availability.
We've reached a point where legal prescription painkillers are easier to get than illegal drugs, and also provide a better high (at least until tolerance levels get too high)

32. Actually, Florida just did do research on drug use
Edited on Wed Jun-18-08 09:31 AM by thecrow
...and they found that there were many more deaths due to prescription drugs that "illegal" drugs.
But ZERO deaths from smoking pot :)

I posted it GD or LBN in the last week or two.

EDIT: Oh and about potency of pot.... they said users tend to adjust the amount smoked, so themore potent pot of today is smoked in lesser quantities!

If only because doctors prescribe them like they're candy. I've heard of junkies purposely wrecking their vehicles just to get a batch a doctor is more than happy to oblige them.

15. I wish I could quit smoking cigs as easily as I quit pot !!!
Don't tell me it's highly addictive, idiot (meaning the idiot on tv with this Heidi Collins)!!! I quit smoking pot 17 years ago, but I'm STILL smoking cigarettes.

So, whoever wants to try to make that tired old case about pot being highly addictive, talk to the hand cause the mind is saying "BULLSHIT".

Some of us didn't replace it with alcohol either. Though the one who are booze hounds in our midst are as addicted as ever.

19. Because most people want marijauna to be legal.. most think its stupid
to be on their class 1 list... and of course the pharmacies would lose on their big profits when people didn't need half or their drugs.. when a weed would suffice just nicely.

20. Grrrrr. Where's the mention of self-titration.
Unless everyone is getting their hands on true one-hit-shit, an increase in potency is unequivocally a good thing. People self-titrate when smoking marijuana. No one starts smoking a spliff, finishes half of it and says to themselves: "Holy crap, I'm really more fucked up than I should be. However, I've got a full half spliff remaining, seeing as I can't put said spliff out, I guess I need to finish it." That's just like suggesting that hard liquor is so much more dangerous than beer. Well, people will drink several beers in a night, but how often do you see people helping themselves to 36 ounces of scotch? The stronger the bud, the less people smoke of it. The less you smoke, the less tar you inhale and the healthier you are. I have not heard a single argument as to why marijuana with a higher THC content is not a good thing. Just more stupid BS propaganda.

26. The stats the gov't uses are for anyone with any THC in their system who arrives in an ER...
for any reason. Sort of like how any accident involving drinking -- even if the drunk isn't the one at fault -- is an "alcohol-related accident" according to MADD.

28. Here you go.
http://www.drugscience.org/pfa/pfa_ER.html

Note that a huge number of the ER 'mentions' for pot result in ambulatory care (no admission - they walk out) and are sent to the ER to begin with by the cops. The drugs with real medical issues have order-of-magnitude differences in mention rates, are rarely sent to the ER by the cops, and have a far lower ambulatory treatment rate.

In other words, it is all bullshit of course. Too bad the stats linked don't include booze and cigs in those numbers, just as a control on what we allow and don't allow and relative harm. of course the ER stats for mention of alcohol and tobacco would be huge, astoundingly huge.
