6. Under the law, love is irrelevant |
|
Marriage is about property, material and legal rights of spice and children. (Spice is the plural of spouse, isn't it? Kind of like one mouse, two mice.) Love, or the absense thereof, is legally irrelevant except insofar as a loveless marriage might lead to domestic abuse.
(Sorry, I can't get YouTube at work so I can't watch your links yet.)

After seeing another thread showing pics of the recent gay marriages in cali and how happy everybody looked I wanted to post an upbeat thread about love and marriage in general.
I guess this crowd is too technical for something like that

10. As I said, "under the law" |
|
The reason why same-sex marriage is so important to us gays and lesbians is that marriage represents a very large number of rights and protections currently denied to us. A recent count of the Revised Code of Washington showed over 900 different state statutes which touch on marriage, with most of those statutes providing and protecting the rights of the married couple.
I am not denigrating the emotional reasons as to why a couple would want access to those rights and protections, nor the joy and victory of finally, at long last, having access to those rights and protections. But under the law, such things are not relevant and have no bearing as to the purpose of legal marriage.
