Tiger Woods done for the year - blown ACL
Woods to have knee surgery, will miss rest of the year

Tiger Woods, who went 91 holes on a wounded knee to win the U.S. Open on Monday, will have reconstructive surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will miss the rest of the 2008 PGA TOUR season.

No date has been set for the surgery.

"While I am obviously disappointed to have to miss the remainder of the season, I have to do the right thing for my long-term health and look forward to returning to competitive golf when my doctors agree that my knee is sufficiently healthy," Woods said in a statement released by his management company, IMG.

What a gutsy win the Open was, eh?

1. Nothing, I mean, nothing hurts like a torn ACL.
I still shiver thinking about when I twisted my knee and tore mine all the way through. I didn't believe for a while that I would ever walk again. That bad.

4. 2 ACL reconstructs here.
10 years apart. Sometimes I think the rehab was as painful as the injury/surgery.

2. I don't care for spectator sports, but I have an opinion on Woods.

If he hadn't been so popular playing/winning the "white man's" sport, there wouldn't be an Obama today.

That's a very good thing.

3. Jebus
A torn ACL and he could still play at that level?! He really is a wonder of nature. I don't think most people would have even been walking without assistance, let alone out playing umpteen holes of golf he had to play to win the Open. I'm not a golf person, never have been, but Tiger fascinates me and I always watch him. He deserves the rest of the year off after his outstanding performance yesterday.

6. Playing and winning despite hairline fractures
A very brave performance on the part of Tiger Woods, almost the stuff of legend. Golf isn't my game but this is a bigger story than golf.

7. Apparently he tore it a while ago. How the heck did he win the open playing on
a torn ACL and 2 cracked bones in his leg? That is just inhuman.

8. Gosh, I guess he'll just have to live on that $100 million he's earned.
I'm sorry that he was injured, etc, etc, but I'm not going to start sobbing about how his financial circumstances.

10. OH yeah - he's just a golfer
"Come on Tiger. Hines Ward doesn't even have an ACL in one knee and he's playing professional football.
Rub some ice on it and get your ass back on the course."

9. He'll be back in three weeks.
That is unbelievable. The man really isn't human. Using his driver as a cane, in between clutch shot after clutch shot.

Please tell me we're working on cloning this guy.

12. Very, very easily
The stress on the back, knees and shoulders while hitting a 300+ yard drive is incredible.
