Steve King says a cryptic statement to Scott McClellan

"Couldn't you have taken this to the grave with you and done this country a favor?"

What does "this" mean?

I thought Scott was out of the loop, a disgruntled former low-level member of the Bush Administration, right? I mean that is what the Bush Administration is saying about him.

If Scott was out of the loop, then obviously Steve wouldn't be any more in the loop that Scott ever was, right?

1. Interpretation of Steve King's comment to McClellan: "Why don't you just shut the fuck up!"

2. McClellan has done nothing to make his life easier, and perhaps even safer.

Unless he is a fatalist it would probably not be unreasonable for him to adopt a measure of paranoia. Yes, his life certainly would have been better had he kept his mouth shut.
