House Dems' Fundraising Email Promises "Strong" Dem Majority -- On Same Day AS FISA Cave
By Greg Sargent - June 20, 2008, 3:09PM

Hmmm. This one isn't great timing, now is it.

On the very same day that the House Dems passed the new FISA cave, Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted out a fundraising email this afternoon with this...

As Speaker, I can tell you that we need a Democrat in the White House and a strong Democratic majority in Congress to drive change forward. Our June 30th FEC deadline is vital to our success in November. All eyes will be on Democrats' fundraising totals as a measure of our party's unity and strength.I ask that you please help to show our commitment to across-the-board victories this November by making a contribution of $35, $50 or more...

It's just not a good day for House Dems to be asking rank-and-file Dems for money, let alone promising strength. As TPM Reader SM, who forwarded us the email, said of this promise of a "strong" Dem majority:

"All I want is one with a spine."

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/06/fundraising_email_touts_house.php

I don't know these fucking people in congress. Between my Bush-loving, worthless blue dog representative and Nancy fucking Pelosi, I have to wonder who they're representing. It sure as hell isn't me. Or you.

1. You don't get it, do you?
Money is needed for a strong Democratic majority. In the event that Obama gets elected he's going to need a very strong Democratic majority in Congress. Do you not know this?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, for now.

7. Who cares?
A majority is useless it they vote like Republicans. Seems to me you should direct your question to yourself cause, "You don't get it, do you?

16. What is the difference ?
I don't see how the Democratic Congress is any different than a Republican Congress at this point.

And they sent this out on the very day they approved FISA and more war funding!

but the message remains the same and just as true.

This all just started in the last 18 months, didn't it? It all just started when the Democrats took control of Congress didn't it? Those treasonous bastards! Everything was just wonderful 18 months ago, wasn't it.

What color is the sky in your world? Just asking...

42. Interesting delete - above. Pretty much all I said was
"PAY PELOSI for killing the 4th amendment and letting those treasonous bastards go - are you phucking kidding me?..."

This language and sentiment is running rampant on DU since yesterday but this one gets deleted. Ok.

I haven't figured DU out yet. Is there an agenda here other than free speech?

the 'rules' page doesn't seem to explain some of the deletes in light of other posts left up.

34. So, what will be your excuse when they still don't do shit after the elections?
The Republiks accomplished their goals with less and you expect that we are so stupid we can't see what is going on.

To sum up your, apparent, position, the party of no ideals is better than the party of bad ideas. Now where have I heard that before?

4. I agree totally
I emailed Brad Miller yesterday advising him that as a life long straight ticket democrat, I would consider myself an independent if Fisa passed the senate.

This morning my wife and I are appalled to find that Obama was describing this evisceration of the fourth amendment as a "compromise" and finding he did not vote at all. He was our last hope that maybe the tide was turning, but it is obvious that is very much in doubt. Up to this point, I was certain I was going to vote for Obama, but now I will vote for whoever makes an issue out of the destruction of the Constitution by the Dems and the Repukes.

I is sad at 60 years of age to be watching what looks like the end of democracy in the US.

21. Obama made a statement yesterday which was ambiguous, but far from
encouraging.

I still hoping he won't join Pelosi in betraying us all on the upcoming vote in the Senate, and wish he would make a clear statement of his determination protect our constitutional rights and hold those guilty of breaking the law responsible.

Mind you, he DOES have a lot on his plate right now, but while he's a Senator and a potential president, he should be a LOT more interested in defending the Constitution.

41. Imo, he has his politiician hat on which is another model than his
Constitutional scholar hat.

That's to be expected, although he could secure a lot of lefties if he made a gesture in our direction once in a while.

I'm not saying we shouldn't contribute to the DCCC -- not at all. But, the contibutions should come with a clear, direct statement of what we expect in return. We can win this year, win like we haven't won in decades. But that shouldn't be at the cost of actual representation. Pelosi isn't doing a good job of faking that.

Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 10:14 AM by alarimer
But I think he is no different than anyone else but he is running for President so has to "appear" different. It doesn't fool me but will fool a lot of people.

I am convinced it no longer matters who controls Congress or the White House.

This is not a compromise; it is a capitulation, like Russ Feingold says. I think Obama's statement tells us where he stands and will likely vote.

33. LOL - that is the best answer in this thread. I'm with you.
The money I can spare is going to Obama, with a little to Hillary for her debt retirement as long as she's helpful. That's it. At least they are trying to make changes. Nancy Pelosi is extremely disappointing. She's got the majority. So far she hasn't done a thing with it except approve more money for wars.
