Spying on the Homefront - Mark Klein on Frontline
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/homefront/interviews/klein.html

"Klein worked for more than 20 years as a technician at AT&T. Here he tells the story of how he inadvertently discovered that the whole flow of Internet traffic in several AT&T operations centers was being regularly diverted to the National Security Agency (NSA). Klein is a witness in a lawsuit filed against AT&T by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which alleges AT&T illegally gave the NSA access to its networks. This is the edited transcript of an interview conducted on Jan. 9, 2007..."

2. YW, we seem to have forgotten another aspect of this FISA
capitulation and that is why any whistleblower should come forward next time.

5. As exemplified in Sibel's case,
whistleblowers only seem to lose their jobs. The rest of the time after losing their jobs, justice and the press ignore them.

3. Personally, I have had suspicions about AT&T for over 3 years..
I used to be one of their customers. Then, one day out of the blue, I got a bill for $867.00! I had no idea what it was for?? So I called all their customer service numbers, including some as far away as India. Everytime I thought I had it resolved, I would get another threatening letter from them. Finally they shut down my Internet service and sent my name to a collection agency. Just this week, I have sent another letter to NCO collections explaining that I could not get an itemization of the charges and that I refused to pay what I did not owe. I'm certain it has affected my credit.

But, I am convinced I was/am on a list of some sort that AT&T has assembled. I believe it may have been connected to my posts here on DU. Over the years, I have posted some very anti-Bush and Adminstration comments. I do believe that my name is one of those that was spied upon...

4. Hope you will be able to get the bill worked out soon. As for the
spying and changing to another carrier, I do believe that many companies use their hardware. So even if you pay another carrier for service, your information may very well get transmitted over some of their equipment making it available to the government's program.
