Poll question: What hour do good Democrats have supper?
An argument is taking place. People who eat supper in the later European manner think those who eat at 5:30 are boorish. People who eat after work think that those who eat at 8 or 9 are snobs.

One of those in the argument claims that it is historically solid Democrats who eat before 6:30, and those who eat later are Republicans or living like Republicans.

So, when do Democrats have supper?

And is your suppertime different from the hour your parents eat/ate?

4. I eat dinner later, rather than earlier.......
My grandparents, who were English, had afternoon tea and a full meal at seven....which is about what I do, I suppose.

My mother's parents tended to eat earlier in the day, but they were farmers, and that's what one does!

5. We eat whenever the schedule allows
After many years of running a service based business that catered to people needing attention after they got off work we got used to eating late. In the last seven or eight years since we retired from that business, my husband has been working a job that can let him off anywhere between 4 and 7 PM - still a service based business.

My parents tried to have dinner for us kids at six every night, even when Dad was working in the field and could not break off until after dark. Similar deal, Dad worked for himself and had to take care of things before he could stop for the day. So often Mom would feed us then wait to have her dinner until she and Dad could eat together.

7. Well, I live alone and I eat whenever the hell I am hungry no matter what time it may be.
That's always worked well for me. No point in being a slave to the clock.

9. My republican mom had dinner on the table at 6 sharp.
My independent dad liked it that way.
My independent sister does the same.
My Naderite/green brother eats after the last set of the evening.
I eat around 8.

11. Just who is arguing?
I live alone and I work at home. I eat what and when I want.

Sometimes I don't eat all day and sometimes I nibble all day. Sometimes I eat the same thing or two or three days running.

Sometimes I have leftovers for "breakfast" or cereal for "supper." Sometimes I make an elaborate recipe for "lunch." If a sauce is especially good, I might even lick the plate in front of my cats.

My parents had set mealtimes to correspond to work/school schedules and so did I when my kids were young, but what was done then is not relevant now.

If I'm visiting other people, I do as they do. Otherwise, who cares?

12. I eat it at the same time I feed my cat
Whenever he gets hungry, I feed him, and then have a bite to eat myself (of human food). Embarrassing that my feeding habits are controlled by a 12 pound ball of fur.

17. Now that children aren't depending on me...
Supper/dinner is anywhere from 12 noon to midnight. I prefer to cook one large, nummmy meal a day, and then make smaller meals of the left-overs later. :)

rather than supper, and it's usually around 5:30-6:00 unless I'm making something fabulous that takes longer.

23. My Burgoo is in its second day and it is fantastic.
I put lamb, beef, chicken and pork in it. Along with the meats I put Okra, potatoes, corn, lima beans, green pepper, onion, and tomato sauce. I mixed beef and chicken bullion. I seasoned with salt and pepper, cayenne and garlic.

If the stock is salty, you may not need to add salt. Black pepper is essential. Let it cook for about three hours. I put some Acini de Pepe (couscous will work too) in with about an hour left. That helped thicken the broth.
