My political goals are modest: I just want us to get through the next
6.5 months without bushco attacking Iran and without some "attack" on the "homeland". I want the dem convention in Denver to go smoothly. I want the repukes to be unable to steal the November election, and I want an increased majority in the House and Senate.

Maybe those goals aren't so modest after all.

And I'm not sure that it wouldn't be equally calamitous should that be the way it happens.

4. Plan The Work...Work The Plan
Unfortunately, there's precious little that can be done to stop this regime from continuing to trample the Constitution and International law...but hopefully a strong message in November can shake a few Democrats to make that final lame duck session living hell for the executive.

The rest is looking good. I'd be more concerned with the GOOP lovefest turning into a mess with all the Paulbots in town at the same time than anything messing up at the Democratic convention. Polls continue to show Democrats doing well across the country and there are many good Democrats running...competing in a way I haven't seen in my way too many years of observing the body politic. The GOOP brand is severely damaged...the party is splintered and continues to pull further apart rather than unite as times get tougher. Also with the large number of new Democrats registered across the country, it's gonna make a difference in November. All it takes is to make sure those people get there and otehrs who want change also get to the polls.

One better sign this year than in the past is whose counting the votes. We no longer have Ken Blackwell in charge in Ohio, but Democrats instead. There are more Democrats in charge of the count this year than in the past and the Obama campaign is loading up for bear as far as making sure that obstacles in new voting laws are overcome. It's not perfect, but a lot better than in the past.

I'd say your goals are realistic...now let's make it happen.

Cheers...

5. Ah, remember the good old days when we didn't have to worry
about our OWN government attacking someone else for some trumped up reason?

6. Agree on all those...
also for the Tories NOT to position themselves to win the next election in the UK; Labour to move back at least a bit to the left, stop the assault on our civil liberties, and give more support to the public services; the Far Right parties to stop making inroads here and in Europe; and the Daily Mail and other right-wing tabloids to go out of business. Maybe my goals aren't that modest either!

10. Those are good goals.
I do not think any democrats will be looking to disrupt the convention; other forces might be, but I do not think it will be a problem.

The possibility of air strikes on a few targets inside Iran is a possibility. I do not think it is a 50-50 chance, but even a 1 in 10 risk is worthy of our consideration. The administration and its allies would like few things more than a "national emergency," which could saturate the nation with fear and hatred.

Some people are wishing the democrats in Congress would take bolder actions now. I wish they had 15 months ago, and do not think it is realistic to expect them to now. I am confident that an Obama presidency will begin to shift us to the right track, though not at the pace that a society which has come to believe that instant gratification is a possibility. Obama has a sense of when to fight, and when to be patient. After the next 6.5 months, we enter a new and more difficult phase of grass roots activity.
