Whatever you do... Do not think about Impeachment...
Edited on Sun Jun-22-08 05:10 PM by mikelewis
Don't think about it...

Don't visualize it...

Don't hope for it...

Don't wonder what it would feel like seeing Bush actually being admonished and disgraced...

Don't imagine the sense of justice that millions would feel all over the world...

Don't even pretend it's a remote possibility...

Accept that those that died by his lies and his manipulations and his orders... accept that they died and he will never be brought to account. Allow the Pelosi Pocket Pardon the room needed to save Bush and his buddies from accountability. Impeachment is off the table; so whatever you do... don't think about it.

1. Hey, it worked for Pol Pot...
He died without ever having to face those whom his regime victimized. Score one for evil!

6. Whatever they are wearing...
I feel secure in the thought that the word "underware" doesn't figure in. ;-)

5. I don't think about it
because it is not going to happen. While the process itself would take just weeks, getting the support for it from enough members of Congress to actually support it would take longer and many would delay any answer at all just to run out the clock.

Every member of the House is up for re-election as is a good part of the Senate. Right now our Representatives and Senators are more worried about keeping a hold of their seat than impeaching anyone. If they lacked the balls to do it last year, I can not imagine that any of them may have grown a pair in the time since.

Believing that Impeachment is going to happen would be like blowing smoke up my own ass everytime I buy a lottery ticket and believing that I was going to win. Having all of my numbers come up has as much a chance of happening as Impeachment does.

Should it happen? Does it need to happen? It really, truly should. Do I have faith that the bunch of assholes in Congress sitting around farting, scratching their asses and studying their standing in the polls are going to even try to get it done? Come on, what have they done lately that would have me believe this? Sad that justice will not be done.

8. This is the same reasoning Pelosi is using... the politics are too hard...
That's why Congress won't hold him accountable for murder... politics? That in and of itself is an outrage that should be fought tooth and nail... not quietly met with hypocritical acquiescence. If the people push the politicians, they will have no choice but to oust Bush. We need to attack Pelosi's name and show how she is shielding him from accountability and she will be forced to proceed with the Impeachment of Bush or suffer the same sad epitaph as Gerald Ford, the pardoner of Nixon. We need to make protecting Bush politically dangerous and then Impeachment can happen and happen quickly... or we can just give up and suffer the shame. Bush must be held into account because that is what is right... to quote you...

"Should it happen? Does it need to happen? It really, truly should."

They won't fight unless you fight... these are politicians... they step in front of parades and ride bandwagons... they will do what the people make them do and pretend they are happy to do it. Push them by getting the idea out into the deep waters and they will be forced to choose a side. They will have to stand up for justice or side with injustice... and they will have to do that publicly... and fuck politics. Politics is not a good enough reason to allow murder and torture to go unpunished and unopposed.

11. Pelosi's reasons are much simpler
she can count to 67. She knows any attempt to impeach is bound to end in failure to convict, and is therefore, a waste of time.

13. You honestly believe the President wouldn't be removed if there was a public hearing regarding...
...his many crimes? A public hearing about how the President lied about Iraq would force the Senators into openly supporting a terrible injustice... "Yes, I know he lied but I thought it best to let him get away with it so I voted against impeachment..." That's a great campaign slogan btw...

Also, the GOP didn't seem to care that they didn't have the votes before they impeached Clinton... they pushed the issue and let the legal hearings convict the President... which was rendered as guilty in the court of public opinion.

18. Yes, I honestly believe it
I can't think of 3 republican senators who would vote to remove him, much less 18.

14. I completely agree with you
I am not saying that justice should not be done. What I AM saying is that I do not believe Impeachment WILL happen with this bunch. And I lay the fault of it completely at the feet of our leaders in Congress.

I blame Bush for being who he is and doing what he did. But the real crime lies in those who are letting him get away with it. Mark my words, they are not going to do anything to impeach him.

15. Which means we must do every thing in our power to try to force them into it.
That's the beauty of what Kucinich has done by introducing articles of impeachment... he is forcing people to make a stand. He has introduced something we can all rally around. And we must push this hard or there will never be accountability... not just for Bush but for any leader in the future who decides they are above the law. A way must be made out of no way and so I will start fanning the flames and hope a fire begins to blaze... impeachment will never happen but at least I can say I fought for what was right and true even though I knew the truth would never win.

16. It is now the home stretch of campaign season
everyone of these cowardly Democratic candidates is running against a Republican. Any threat to them would come in the Primaries as they know that Democrats will vote for them, not the Republican. There is no down side. There is no chance for Impeachment. It infuriates me.

17. Any thing is possible if you try hard enough... accepting defeat before battle is even waged...
is a sure bet for failure. Though it may be extremely hard... it is not IMpossible... there are a great many impossible things in this world and holding a murderer into account is not one of them; though it is difficult.

9. Yup, prosecuting local criminals is also too hard, and too costly.
Just ignore all the burglers, rapists and murderers.

Takes too long to prosecute, and ain't worth it.

10. Well, to be fair, normal burglars, rapists and murderers aren't above the law...
...obviously, politicians are now to be considered "supra legem". Remember, if the President does it... it can't be against the law.

Only if we continue to allow them to be so "considered".

We aren't helpless.

Unless we CHOOSE to be.

7. What does Pelosi have to gain from this? It's more than spinelessness
I think the leadership of congress (both parties) was informed about what was going on shortly after the invasion of Iraq. They knew about the torture. They knew about the illegal detentions. They knew a lot of what was going on (thanks to Cheney) and their lack of action made them complicit.

They can hardly be expected to bring up any matter that could turn around and bite them in the ass, can they? I don't think we'll see any investigations of bush crimes until the current senate and house democratic leadership has been replaced.

12. I would assume that she is culpable in the crimes since she had been briefed...
...on them and has not officially opposed them. Whatever personal problems she had with the policies, when she found out laws were being broken she was obliged to report the torture and detentions, the warrant less spying and other abuses of power... she didn't object and so would be considered a co-conspirator in a war crimes trial. If she impeaches Bush on crimes she knew he committed and maybe even approved of and aided through legislation... if she was involved then that can explain why she intends to use the Pocket Pardon. Otherwise, she has no motive to help Bush... unless of course he's just paying her off or black-mailing her in some way.
