Dammit! I have a dial-up and can't watch U-tube. Please posters |
|
give a little info for us that are technology challenged. I can't spend 40 minutes trying to download a 3 minute video about what bush said about 9/11 or any other video for that matter. So you video posters--- please give a little info.

to include a short summary of the video in the text of the post.

7. I don't think they actively search for them |
|
Probably get a link from a friend to the video and then decide to share it. Also, certain youtube users post certain types of videos, so that's a good start as well. For example, I'm sure that there are a couple of users out there who post Olbermann's Worst Person in the World thing every night, so if you saw one that you wanted to link to, search to find out who those posters are and then link away.

3. I know exactly what you mean--I had dialup until a few weeks ago. |
|
It was frustrating to wait for 40 seconds for 3 seconds of video to load. Yes, and too often is the assumption that everybody had a high speed connection and so you didn't even have much information about the video. So I'm with you--video posters, give a little more information than just a cryptic subject. It will be appreciated by many.

8. Just out of curiosity, why do you still have dial-up? |
|
You don't have to answer, of course, but if it is something a fellow DUer can help you with...maybe someone will step up?

12. Some of us have nothing else available. |
|
The only thing I could get until recently was dial-up. Or pay near $100/month for satellite since I'd have to get the tv part too. No cable, no DSL. Now I have intermittent DSL but can only afford that so long as I get a bundled thing with my phone bill.

I thought maybe it was a technology thing and maybe someone could donate some equipment.
Dunno what to do about the gouging telecoms.

Is nice that they finally got DSL here, even though it goes out regularly. I have a deal with my provider to switch me back to dialup when DSL goes out, but it's a pain tying up the phone line.

23. 1/4 mile up a private road. Coyotes, owls, racoons, slugs, deer, all abound here |
|
slugs abound slowly though. Have to get marked where wires are already buried, pay to have roadside trenched, pay for cable and some sort of relay thing (was a while back we checked, can't remember the terms), pay to have it all installed, buried.
Dang slugs ate 2 packages of bean seedlings, but I bought ferrous slug bait today and will replant tomorrow. Woods are nice and peaceful.

24. Sorry you're on the other side of the continent |
|
I'd be willing to do the grunt work or even set up a wireless link with battery backup and solar charging for much less than that. Not sure who your providers are but I had reliable DSL from Verizon for 8 years and my parents had SDSL and the local small-time phone company provided even better service and quality than I got even though it was a bit more pricey. Have you tried bugging the PUC to find out why the LEC can't provide consistent service? DSL isn't rocket science and should be reliable. If it's not, I'd expect that the provider is cutting corners on maintenance of infrastructure or employee qualifications.

|
I'd say several times a yr, but then it goes back on. Had some yahoo do a bad clearcut near here and trees bordering it, and some left, fall over. Life in the windy part of the state.

just an explanation of the content would be so nice. I have dial-up too and miss the entire point of having the video posted without an explanation. Some people do provide a summary though and that is much appreciated.
