The OP that shows up ...... everybody responds (like 30 + )... yet the original poster either never comes back to argue, or defend their claim, but the OP lets it ride ...... and yet the thread is not considered 'flame-bait' and it stays out there ..... this drives me nuts !!! So don't respond to my freaking response in the thread .... BUT FREAKING RESPOND TO SOMEONES !!! IT'S A FREAKING DISCUSSION BOARD, don't just disappear unless you say in the OP you gotta go and will get back to it !!! Geesh ..... I know hit and run threads are a dime a dozen but if you do this ... you are suspect. Peace.

START A DISCUSSION THEN BE READY TO DEFEND IT ... THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW !!!!

Many times it is INTENTIONAL disruptors who "hit and run." When the same poster starts 3 or more threads with the same provocative (flame baiting) message over one or two days and doesn't come back to any of them, while angry posters have their rebuttals deleted.... Well, the grim reeper will likely catch up to them eventually. Sadly, they will take some less emotionally restrained DU posters with them.

but could it be some O.P.eers are guided by their peer's judgment and overwhelming rejection of idea or concept convinces them to just let the thread drop, the lesson has been learned.

I'm not saying that's always the case, but maybe sometimes it is.

And can't always get back to a thread.

OPs I post that are my own opinion I usually do in the evening/night and tend to reply back as able (but with a kid and the wife, dinner, bedtimes, etc and so on I am not always able to).

Sometimes I just give up on an argument as it seems no one will give (myself included) and at that point it is not a discussion anymore but an argument against two pig headed people :)

Overall answer - life gets in the way.

Secondly, I read a post, I may or may not make a response. I'm not here to get involved in long-winded arguments that hijack an entire thread. I state my piece, I move on. It's not my job to defend my point of view to the death, because the other guy/gal's point of view is equally valid.

I have a life. I can't hang around for hours, debating about a post or a thread. Even if I had the time, I have physical handicaps that prevent me from typing at the computer for long periods of time.

What gets on my nerves are those people who argue INCESSANTLY, adding tons of time-wasting posts to a thread. Don't these people have lives? Families? Jobs? Once in a while, don't they have to sit down with a good book while taking a dump? :)

seeing how i was interested enough in the subject to start a post to get other peoples thoughts on it. it always surprises me when i see a thread where a person never comes back to reply to anyone talking on their thread
