LEAVE IMUS ALONE! Go after Glen Beck, Hannity, Savage,
Crowley, Limbaugh, why do these people fly under the radar? Oy.
Imus is right. The guy was black, so he's a target. That's a fact.

And the fact that the m$m will talk about this ad nauseum but fails to talk about people dying in Iraq really fries me. THIS is important? :grr:

Don Imus responds: I was misunderstood»

Earlier today, Don Imus again made racially-charged comments about a black athlete. Responding to wave of criticism that ensued, Imus claimed this afternoon that he had been misunderstood:

Asked in an e-mail message what he was trying to convey, Mr. Imus wrote: “I meant he was being picked on because he’s black.’’ He added that Dick Gregory, a veteran comedian and activist who is black, would be a guest on his show on Tuesday, to discuss the death of George Carlin. “We’ll see what he thinks,’’ Mr. Imus wrote. “I mean…come on!’’

Take a listen to the audio again and see what you think (at link)

The mindless media, at it again.

1. I can't listen to the audio
Can you tell me what he said?

And, I agree that Imus is less offensive than Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage, etc... the difference is that Imus often gives Democrats and/or liberals a place to speak, as well as Republicans. Hannity, Savage, etc are closed to anybody left of the far right.

5. Here's the transcript:
This morning on his show “Imus in the Morning,” host Don Imus “made a racially freighted comment” about an African-American athlete. Imus and his colleagues were discussing Adam “Pacman” Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and how he wants to now drop his nickname. At one point, Imus’s co-host, Warner Wolf, notes that Jones has “been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005.” Imus’s reaction:

IMUS: What color is he?

WOLF: He’s African-American.

IMUS: Well, there you go. Now we know.

Imus' comment was related to Jones' arrest record and what color he is, which might explain his arrest record, NOT that he's black and had it coming.

I'm riled because I watched AC 360 last night, and this was one of the top stories. Why does this even qualify?

8. Hi babylon sister
I agree, the others you named are much worse. But Imis sort of suggested that since he is black, its not surprising that he has an arrest record, at least that is the way I take it. It was a stupid thing for him to say, and everybody is looking for racist remarks since his first remark, and also because we have a black presidential candidate. Imis has to tread very lightly now on any mention of race.

10. I think Imus was suggesting that 'because' he is black he

has an arrest record. I just listened to Imus' reaction to being questioned again; he rightly said he's minding his p's and q's because of what happened, so he'd be an idiot to insinuate black men deserve getting arrested.
This is molehill politics; making mountains out of molehills, and it's despicable.
Why doesn't the m$m concentrate on important issues, like this damned illegal occupation NO ONE is covering? :grr:

And :hi:, MiniMe!

15. I agree
I still think it was stupid of him to say, but I don't think he said it with intent, at least not conscious intent. And there are much more important things to cover. If he hadn't had that first incident this would probably pass without mention.

:hi:

11. I think the remark can be taken both ways
and I'd have to listen to the actual audio tape to be the judge.

2. I heard him say it and at the time I didn't think much of it one way or another.
Then again, I'm not in the habit of dissecting every syllable someone utters looking for nefarious intentions.

His previous comments about the women in the Rutgers basketball team were inexcusable. Yesterday's remark seems to me to be much ado about nothing.

3. This Is A PR Stunt
Most of us all but forgot about Imus...and that wasn't a good thing for him or his Citadel bosses. His ratings haven't been what they hoped for and few stations have picked up his show...so what's an Imus to do? Make noise. Say good, say bad, just say. It gets people turning on the radio and wondering what he'll say next...or so the bosses hope.

I've heard far more racist crap on the radio than what Imus spewed this time. Hate radio is overloaded with the stuff right now...packaged as concern troll material or in code...it's almost refreshing for them to take off the white robes and expose themselves now and then.

The conveluted logic of many of the execs who write the paychecks to asshats like Beck, Savage and Hannity is that somehow when they say something outrageous this is "good for business". Beck's ratings have hovered near Community access but it spikes every time he makes an ass out of himself...people tune in to see what stupid shit he'll try to pull next and this is all the network hopes to see. Remember, these are attention whores and this is what they thrive on.

4. You are 100% correct!
What Imus said is nothing compared to what goes out over Salem Broadcasting everyday. Remember this one?

"I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down," Mr. Bennett said in the broadcast. "That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky."

Bill Bennett kept HIS job!

12. I heard the tape, and there's no way Imus would have said anything
that blatantly racist after all he's been through. I don't like him, but I think he's telling the truth here.

14. I don't care who he supports; he's a scapegoat now. What about
Savage or Beck? Why is no one questioning the crap they say? This doesn't even measure up to the hate they spew, and it's being twisted to suit the corporate masters. I heard Cooper going on and on about this last night; Beck works for CNN. You figure that out.
