This letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was sent today. Its posting was meant to encourage you to write one or more of your own, for your voice matters. You could make a difference.
Dear Nancy,
The latest House approved war spending bill, the biggest ever for Iraq and Afghanistan, will be a death sentence for thousands more people including women and children. As a mother and grandmother you understand the aching sense of loss as families from San Francisco to Baghdad bury their children, and engulfed in tears, ask why? Why was this necessary and why didn't someone of conscience stop it?
As you can appreciate, a President who censors the showing of the dead and severely injured from these wars does not trust the American people and therefore would want a House approved spying bill formalizing the shredding of the 4th Amendment to the Bill of Rights, and he got it. Rescuing giant telecoms for violating 4th Amendment protections was icing on his cake.
In both instances, what Mr. Bush is doing is criminal but you are complicit for he could not do it without you.
You've been critical of these wars and if you find the courage, you can stop them. You can also stop the illegal and widespread spying on U.S. citizens by their government.
These are the times when people of virtue seize the opportunity to achieve greatness. You are at a crossroads of destiny. You will either become another forgotten footnote in a tragic time in U.S. history or you will make our nation proud as you help rescue the Iraqi and Afghani peoples, save U.S. and allied soldiers and help restore our freedoms and our stature.
Sincerely,
Dick Kazan
