Clinton may run again, Pelosi says

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

(CNN) — Is Hillary Clinton done with presidential politics?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi doesn't appear to think so.

The California Democrat suggested Tuesday that the former Democratic presidential candidate may yet mount another run for the White House.

"I think her candidacy was a just a bright, bright moment for us and she may run again," Pelosi said at a breakfast with reporters organized by the Christian Science Monitor.

“Sen. Clinton has advanced the cause of women in government and her candidacy has been a very positive tonic for the country and had a very wholesome effect on the political process," Pelosi said. "I really don’t know, I haven’t analyzed and the rest, I’m a victim of sexism myself all the time, but I just think it goes with the territory, I don’t sit around to say, ‘but for that."

Pelosi also appeared hesitant to blame sexism on Clinton's loss to Sen. Barack Obama in the prolonged race for the party's presidential nomination. Clinton, along with several of her supporters, have suggested sexist attitudes among members of the media contributed to the New York senator's eventual loss.

1. Won't she be pushing John McCain's age the next time she's got a shot?
And then she'll have to beat the democratic vice president in the primaries?

4. It depends on so many factors.
I'm just going to keep the hope alive. My desire was that Hillary would win this year, take Obama as her VP (as she would have if she had gotten the nomination) and then he would have run in 2016. But, if it works in reverse, so be it. She would still be younger than McCain and Reagan when they ran.

6. American-born Golda Meir was elected prime minister of Israel at 71.

Marlena Dietrich headlined Vegas at 75. Just sayin.... She's had estrogen on her side (and probably a lot less PTSD)

Who knows....?

really old... She actually wasn't that old as PM-- 53, I think, when she took office.

Just talking gender and age at time of assuming major political office or difficult career options... (Not political philosophy, obviously). And yeah, Golda Meir (stupid typo)... There aren't a lot of female examples to pick from (at least in this millenium).

33. Many of the same negatives that caused her defeat this cycle...
...will still apply in future cycles. And it's foolish to pick our
nominee based on it being "their turn".

13. It would be no easy task
to find a bigger Hillary supporter during her campaign than me, but I never bought into the whole sexism angle for her loss. What happened to her was no different than what happens to slow starting boxers sometimes. They give away too many of the early rounds and cannot make up the difference with a late rally. Had she won just one or two more of the early primaries...oh well. There is always next time. She can chalk it up to experience. It was a terrible campaign strategy at the beginning that was responsible for her loss, not sexism in my view.

15. I agree - another Hillary supporter here.
It was a terribly run campaign. The sexism certainly didn't help, but it wasn't the primary reason for her loss.

16. Someone in her campaign made the assumption
that she would easily coast to the nomination. When it became a real contest the campaign struggled to find its footing. They will know next time not to assume anything.

That bleeping jerk!!! She should have canned him sooner, but she's very loyal to her people. Ditto for Patti Solis Doyle, she was not up to the task at hand. Good person, but she was way over her head.

Edited on Wed Jun-25-08 10:16 AM by Super Soaker Sniper
but if Karl Rove was more of a Mercenary and not a devoted Conservative, he would have made short work of Obama's campaign if he had been managing Hillary. I do not agree with the man's politics at all, but I do admire his ability to read a pulse and exploit weaknesses in opponents. He took a lightweight in Bush with tons of baggage and guided him to the Presidency against an incumbent VP of a popular President in a great economy, low unemployment climate and peacetime.

You can argue that the USSC installed Bush after the Florida debacle, but think about it. It should not have even been close to where the electoral votes of a single state should have mattered. Rove may be a real POS but he knows how to win.

Almost anyone running a Democratic campaign is either a novice or has guided some real disasters.

41. Rove is scum, but he was very good at his job.
Only someone that good could manage to get his guy reelected despite the antiwar feelings of the country.

Rove would have obliterated Obama, but Hillary would not have allowed it. Despite perceptions, she didn't throw the kitchen sink at him. For example, the campaign already knew last year about Rev. Wright and his inflammatory sermons, but they never used it even though it would have helped her before Feb. 5th.

As a NY veteran US Rep. told me this past April, there are things that a Democrat does not use against another fellow Democrat but the Republicans would not hesitate to use.

I had high hopes for Nancy, but she is a disappointment. It didn't help that she was also quite catty toward Hillary during the primaries. Now she decides to talk about sexism and Hillary running again?

Ahhhh Nancy, you should have at least pretended to stay neutral. I mean, considering that you are the Speaker of the House and all that........

24. I Tought Pelosi and Clinton Don't Like Each Other?
I can't imagine that Hillary would suddenly confide in Nancy. I would just take it as uninformed and premature speculation on the part of Nancy. Sure, Hillary may not have ruled out another run, but I doubt that Nancy Pelosi is getting the inside scoop from Hillary unless they suddenly became buddies. Its all rather meaningless at this point.

39. I don't know how Hillary feels about Nancy,
but there's no doubt that Nancy doesn't care for Hillary.

As a woman, I get the feeling that it's more jealousy than political differences. I think that Nancy wants to be the only Queen Bee in Congress.
