Please sign this petition to keep creationism out of Texas science classrooms.
Please go to link below to Texas Freedom Network and learn more about how a majority of the members of the Texas Education Committee are fighting tooth and nail to have creationism, disguised as the pseudoscience of intelligent design, be adopted into the new science standards before the end of 2008. The head of the committee is a Perry appointee, an evangelical Christian and a real snake in the grass Mepublican who also supports the failed abstinence-only program. TFN has an audio of him addressing a church group and he directly contradicts what he tells Evan Smith on Texas Monthly Talks interview also provided at TFN website.

This Texas science teacher appreciates the help. Spread the word, and if you can please throw a few bucks to TFN as they do great work.

4. Gladly! I just went round and round the other day with someone over the
"Evolution is just a theory and creationism deserves equal time as another theory".

Sadly, I didn't win him over but at least I stood my ground.

5. I found this field guide to critical thinking site and have sent it to
a few people I work with that have pulled the same nonsense. Really clears up what science and theories are.

9. To all who want to be informed about this
please watch the PBS NOVA documentary "Intelligent Design on Trial" - http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/id/program.html. It's a great program about the trial that resulted from a Federal lawsuit filed by parents in the Dover, Pennsylvania school district against the School Board when they tried to place Intelligent Design/Creationism into the school curriculum.

10. We face a repeat of this trial in Texas. We will be as ready as Dover.
This is a great NOVA. The I.D. people were trying to pull the same crap there as our ed. commission is doing now, but the judge saw through it and declared that I.D. was nothing more than creationism in disguise.

12. Same here. Many members of our SBOE are disgusting.
Still, it can't hurt to shine a little light on them.

11. Happy to supply the 5th rec!
I signed as well. I have lived in Texas most of my life, and I can say unequivocally that this state is already backward enough as it is. The last thing Texas needs is creationism in the classroom being taught as science. We graduate far too many "brainless wonders" now. There is clearly no point in training them to be dumber than they already are.
