Bush’s approval hits new low: 23 percent.
Only 23 percent of Americans said they approve of President Bush’s job performance in a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg survey, http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-poll25-2008jun25,0,5763707.story which is a new low for him in that poll. Seventy-three percent of respondents said they disapproved of the job Bush is doing.

7. Who ARE these people?? That's still more than one in five. Insane. What does it take?
If gas was $30 a gallon, half the country was a nuclear wasteland, Bush declared himself dictator, publicly worshipped Satan and stuck seven gerbils up his butt on national TV, he would STILL not drop below 20 percent.

8. No fucking kidding.
I'm convinced Bush could eat a live baby on national television and he'd still have a 20% approval rating and Hannity and Limbaugh would be on their knees kissing his ass.

28. The lower limit appears to be 18% -- Cheney's approval the last time I checked.
I figure that this 18% constitutes the true die-hard contingent, completely impervious to fact or the common good.

21. Well, some of these people...
Live in places like Houston and Cobb County GA. Houston is doing just fine right now, with Maserati sales through the roof. My friend just moved to Cobb County, which, thanks to Newt Gingrich, has a lot of defense contractors, so they are keeping their jobs and making money. He's down there selling cars and doing fine. And lovin' them some Dear Leader.

Of course, the rest of us spend our lives waiting for The Last Clap of Doom.

That includes 3% mentally ill and 2% rich people who are actually benefitting from bush's disastrous policies. Beyond that, it's that same mindless loyalty that we see bush surrounding himself with in Washington.

He is an awful little puke of a man, isn't he?

26. I think many of those 23 percenters have come to realize that Bush was a big mistake
but they just can't bring themselves to admit it in public, to one o' them thar fancy big city librul newspapers, which they hate even more than Bush. But if Bush was up for election again, I don't think he'd get 23% of the electorate, but he might still get votes from the mentally deranged like the guys over at Freepazoid land.

if Congress' did not have an equally deserved lower rating. A dismal rating that Bush took 7 years to sink to was beat by Congress in less than two. Accomplishments like that are supremely uncommon and I am so proud of them.

35. Backwash residue -
In 2006, at the White House Correspondence Association Dinner, Bush* was basking at 32% ....

Colbert then segued into a segment poking fun at Bush's sinking approval ratings:

Now, I know there are some polls out there saying this man has a 32 percent approval rating. But guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in 'reality'. And reality has a well-known liberal bias. ... Sir, pay no attention to the people who say the glass is half empty, because 32% means it's two-thirds empty. There's still some liquid in that glass, is my point. But I wouldn't drink it. The last third is usually backwash.

Think about the number of losers who still sport Bush/Cheney bumper stickers on their vehicles - even after 7+ years of cronyism, lies, signing statements, ineptitude, war crimes, overspending and everything else. Add to that the number of closet supporters who aren't as visible.

I see dumb people. Lots and lots of dumb people.

46. That's the basement!
Twenty-three percent is the magic percentage identified by John Dean as the "over the cliff" followers, the right-wing authoritarians who will never, ever change their stripes.

Previously, Bush's approval could be viewed as an aggregate of the American Nazis plus rich sonsabitches who are profiting from Bush's evil policies.

It's now clear that even the greedy are no longer profiting from the Bush Administration.

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Video_50_year_study_says_conservatives_0711.html

It's a little difficult to overstate the importance of these numbers, for they suggest that no reasonable person--and most of the unreasonable ones--has escaped punishment for the election thefts of 2000 and 2004. Mistakes have been made, people will be blamed... and lessons have been finally, painfully learned.

Will the lesson be remembered? One can only hope.
