FINDLAY - Displaying little emotion, the decorated Iraq war veteran stood before Judge Robert Fry in Findlay Municipal Court yesterday and agreed to be returned to central Ohio's Licking County to face charges that he killed his 3-year-old stepson.

Corey S. Flugga, 22, of Newark, Ohio, and formerly of Findlay, is charged with murder in the death Saturday of Carson Hanson at the apartment Mr. Flugga shared with his stepson; his wife, Heather, and the couple's 1-year-old son, Hunter. An autopsy concluded Carson died from blunt-force trauma to the abdomen.

snip: He said Mr. Flugga served in the Army but retired after he suffered a traumatic brain injury in a Humvee accident in Iraq.

snip: An Army Web site identified Mr. Flugga as one of 91 "heroes" invited to attend the Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio in January. Mr. Flugga, who was listed as a member of the 1st Infantry Division, based in Fort Hood, Texas, received a Purple Heart, according to his profile on the Web site.

1. There's no good outcome to this one
Even the mildest brain injuries cause people to overload their circuits easily. We caution against things like going to supermarkets or malls until adequate healing has taken place and exposure to noise, light and confusion has been done over many months.

Likely this guy was just overloaded by two screaming kids he never should have been left alone with.

The VA used to keep brain injured patients until they could handle things like a trip to a mall. I doubt that's the case now. Early release in this case had a tragic outcome.
