Another 5:4 Decision by the SCOTUS |
|
Anybody care to venture a guess on the makeup of the decision to ban the death penalty for child rapists? I don't think it will be too hard to figure out who voted in what way.
We need to constantly remind others of a like mind just how slender the hold of sanity is on this Supreme Court and realize that a victory for McSame come November would likely tip it over the edge.
The pukes have been most successful in pushing whack-jobs onto the court that are young, jingoistic, constitutionally idiotic and ideologically pure to the neo-con wet-dream. We can not allow them another nomination.
Electing Obama is more important than many people realize. Get out and volunteer, spend what you can and make sure he is the next President of the United States.

the death penalty is up to each State within the bounds of the Constitution as defined by the Supreme Court. The makeup of the Supreme Court, which was the point of my OP, is brought about by appointment from the President.
Many decisions are now 5:4 with the 4 most ideologically repuke members towing the neo-con line as if on script from Grover Norquist et al.

Even if I HATED our nominee, I'd vote for him. The next president will likely be naming replacements for Ginsburg and Stevens. And if Scalia's chain-smoking/red meat habits catch-up with him (is it wrong for me to think about that?), he'll be replaced as well.
With this election, we could keep our 5-4 grip (and maybe even extend to 6-3), or it'll be 6-3 against us if Ginsburg and Stevens can't hold-on for yet another 4 years.

4. It would be my guess that the five were not the neocon group |

Imagine a seventeen year old boy having sex with his fifteen year old girlfriend and then being charged with statutory rape. It is still considered child rape..Should he get the death penalty? I think some real thought went into this decision instead of just Republican ideology..
