Morning at the Mall-soleum.....
Edited on Wed Jun-25-08 12:23 PM by marmar
I dropped into one of the numerous suburban Detroit shopping malls this morning. I had the entire Macy's men's shoe department and the two shoe salespeople on duty to myself. (And I didn't buy anything!).
There seemed to be a decent number of people at the mall wandering around, but very few of them seemed to be clutching shopping bags. The lines at the 4 (yes, 4) Starbucks outlets in the mall were shorter, the waits at PF Changs and California Pizza Kitchen nonexistent, and even the food court, with its relatively cheap eats, was lighter than usual at lunchtime on a summer day, even with the kids emancipated from school.

I guess those stimulus checks weren't so stimulating......

1. How very un-amerikan of you to be
out shopping when you should have been at one of your three jobs. According to monkeyboy, thats what makes a good murikun. :sarcasm:

13. No, being at the mall was perfectly OK. What was unAmerican was not buying anything.
Anyone should be ashamed of going to the mall in post-stimulus-check America and not buying anything. And the gas used getting there doesn't count -- you probably bought that the day before, 20 cents cheaper per gallon.

I know there will be those who call for your pun-ishment, but not I! LOL!

On edit: Perhaps that should be Mourning at the Mall-soleum.

4. I think most of that $$ went to pay bills! I know I used mine to pay off
an old medical bill, and even then had to add to it. The average person just doesn't have any extra money to "just go shopping". It's not going to get any better either! Wait until we see the effect of the floods in the midwest. EVERYTHING is going to cost more. Beef is going to be out of the question because the corn crop was destroyed. Everything made with flour is going to go up...AGAIN!

We were talking about this last night at the dinner table. I think we're going to see the popularity of beans & rice increase because that's all people are going to be able to afford.

9. California Pizza?
R U serious? In California, where I have lived most of my life, we have Chicago Pizza. We have New York pizza. I have never, ever heard of California pizza. Is it any good or is it one of those right wing jokes with fruits and nuts as toppings?

10. You've never heard of California Pizza Kitchen?
Edited on Wed Jun-25-08 12:35 PM by marmar
It's a chain....and a good one as chains go. ..... I don't know if there's really such as thing as California pizza, but the ones at CPK are thin-crust, brick-oven and generally lighter. Some of them are bit bizarre, such as a Caribbean pizza with bananas on it.

11. took my family to dinner at Outback - no line at all.
we were seated immediately.

(not my choice of restaurant but my 26 year old son loves it...)

Normally there is at least a 20 minute wait but this time - nada - we went on a Friday evening too.

My mom said on her recent trip to visit DC they stopped in at a Cracker Barrel for breakfast - it was a Saturday morning and not only was there no line, she sais most of the tables were empty.

12. Yesterday I received a notice from the IRS that I should receive my stimulus check within a week.
This is the second notice I've gotten from them regarding the stimulus check. How much did that cost? :eyes:

15. Don't worry about how much it cost THEM:
they'll simply deduct that from your check.
