Why is it that when Republican Senators want to block something...
It seems that they only need 1 Senator, but if Democrats want to block something, there needs to be like approval from half the Senate, or two thirds of the Senate, or some big number that can never be shored up?

2. Good question. If you remember when the republicans had their slim
majority, they always seemed to manage to get their bills through. For one thing I think they always walked lock-step whereas we as democrats tend to not be so united all the time. However, I think leadership has something to do with it as well. They had their leadership and we now have Nancy and Harry and Steny so there you go.

4. It's because they are obedient.
You're right about the lockstep.

Their "leadership" is the party machine, not any elected Congress critter.

5. Hey, the obedience, yeah you are right about that. However, do you think
the party is losing their grip on obedience this election year. It is sort of every man for himself now I think.

8. I don't think they are...
...I believe they are still as obedient as ever.

It's how authoritarians work.

3. Because the Pubs are "follow the leader" types. They are coerced
to make sure they always stick together. The Dems are free thinkers, and they don't use coersive tactics to keep their folks in line!

9. The big secret (but not really)
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 05:05 AM by crickets
is that Democrats are now almost every bit as lockstep as Republicans. It's just that they're in lockstep to vote against their own party. The reasons why comprise a combination of criminal complicity, politically condoned bribery, and Beltway bullshit.

::raises large roll of $bills wrapped in phone cord, with a dusting of white powder::

This is your party.

::smacks you in the face with anthraxcrack money wad::

This is your party on 9/11drugs.

Any questions?
