Call this column “Another look inside the presidential campaign” ... or, “That was one great turkey sandwich!”
It’s a story about April 11, the day H-T reporter James Boyd tagged along with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on a swing through southern Indiana. Boyd drove to Columbus, got on a bus and rode back to Bloomington, where Obama stopped at the Women’s Little 500 and then walked through Nick’s.
The bus had begun the morning in Indianapolis and continued on to Terre Haute for an evening event. Last week, we got a bill from the Obama campaign, which we expected. We didn’t want or expect a free ride or free food.
The details of the invoice were surprising, however.
Meals: $115.62.
Bus: $226.17.
Supplies: $5.54.
Files: $91.41.
Invoice total: $438.74.
The bus fare seems fair, with Boyd taking up a seat that could have been occupied all day through the cross-state swing.
