PT109 Boat Pins
During the 1960 Presidential election John F. Kennedy gave out pins in the likeness of his PT 109 boat, the boat he was stationed on during WWII. I have received two different stories about how some of these pins were given out. I am trying to find the actual story of how the pins were given out. A person who has one of the pins claimed Kennedy personally handed out the gold version of the pins and his staff members handed out the silver version of the pins. A website auctioning off a PT 109 pin claims Kennedy gave the gold pins to delegates who pledged their support to Kennedy before the Democratic Convention of that year. The website does not say anything about the silver pins. Does anyone know the true story of the gold and silver PT 109 pins?
