Will the Supreme Court's decision on the 2nd Amendment help the Democrats? |
|
Some people vote Republican because of the gun issue. Do you think the Democrats might start doing better in the south and rural areas now that this issue has been taken off the table?

1. It will help Dems except ones who are foolish enough to argue against the decision |
|
Gun-ban fanatics like New York representative Carolyn McCarthy will get themselves all sewed up in a horse pie over it.

2. Only as long as they keep it off the table. |
|
Must resist trying to further any form of gun control - no .50 calibre ban, no AW extension, no "gun show loophole", etc.
Time to start rolling back these stupid laws.

3. Actually, because of the 5-4 decision, I think the GOP will use this |
|
decision to bolster their conservative court argument and stress the issue of making sure the next vacancy is filled by a republican president.
They will say, "had Kerry made the last appointments...today the individual right to own guns would have been taken away".

5. Won't matter. Most of us know better and those who don't wouldn't vote Dem anyway. |

8. The goose hunter in Kerry would have never appointed a justice |
|
who would strike down the 2nd Amendment.

4. The emphasis is already on the fact it was a 5 to 4 ruling, so I say no |
|
The GOP will be & is already pounding on how close this ruling was, that inevitably another slightly different handgun case will come up, and that Obama would appoint another Ginsburg to the court and rule against guns.
Check out the right wing blogs; they are already blessing Bush for putting Alito & Roberts on the court and emphasizing that if just one of them was more to the left this would have gone the other way.
I see the NRA pushing hard on this decision with ads in November, too. NRA membership is way up this year.

As long as party leaders are smart enough not to try to fight for new bans on popular guns, YES. It helps take the issue off the table.
