Germans and Republicans Against Bush(Bush History: Thursday 6/26)

Today's entry chronicles the dislike of Bush in Germany ("You are NO Berliner!"), as well as in certain Republican circles ("it makes me so angry", "It's a joke to say there’s a coalition of the willing"). See more at http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=317

Today's categories: Foreign Policy Foul Ups, Incompetence, Iraq, Revolt of the GOP & Insiders

1. How sad it is....
I was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1957 the child of a German National and an American Service who was kiled in Vietnam when I was 7 years old. We were living in Frankfurt in June or 1963 when John Kennedy happened to come to Berlin to give his speech "Ich Bin Ein Berliner" Our family flew from Frankfurt the day before and stayed in a hotel in Berlin for two nights. The morning of his speech, very early we trekked off to the platz to see and hear him. I couldn't believ my eyes. People everywhere. Thousands and thousands. What a stirring speech! I din't understand it, but I could feel the excitement and the sense of a "calling". The sorrowful part of it (to borrow a line from Lloyd Bentsen) Bush, you're no Jack Kennedy! The hope ful part is: for the first time in many years, we have an exciting candidate to work with!

2. Thanks for taking the time
Thanks for taking the time to post your 'on the site' recollections of that time and place in history. It's great you have such a powerful memory at such a young age. It's great that you see an echo of that memory in what (I hope) is about to happen for us all come November!
