Dems: We Have To Let Lieberman Screw Us Over

Time | June 26, 2008 08:36 AM

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/26/dems-we-have-to-let-liebe_n_109326.html

Joe Lieberman is having a not-so-secret affair on his political spouse of the past four decades. The Connecticut Senator -- now an Independent, but until 2006 a staunch Democrat, married to the party -- is not just campaigning for presumptive Republican nominee John McCain; he is, to even the most objective eye, in a deep state of rapture.

You'd think hell hath no fury like a party scorned, but Democrats aren't kicking Lieberman out of the party -- yet. Lieberman has a decent claim of abandonment: after a 2006 Democratic primary challenge over his unyielding support for the war in Iraq, Lieberman won his fourth Senate term as an Independent who caucuses with Democrats. Without his good will there would be no Democratic majority in the Senate, no control of the legislative calendar, no subpoenas and investigations and no committee chairmanships. (Lieberman himself chairs the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.) Harry Reid owes his title to Joe Lieberman. Dumping him is not an option.

Without his good will there would be no

1) Democratic majority in the Senate

2) No control of the legislative calendar

3) No subpoenas and investigations and no committee chairmanships.

(Lieberman himself chairs the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.)

4) Harry Reid owes his title to Joe Lieberman. Dumping him is not an option.

I ask this, how has the dem majority done so far? So Harry Reid owes his chairmanship to the traitor.

Granted the main thing I see here are the subpoenas and investigations.

Other than that, I would say tell him to take a hike and stonewall everything until after the elections like the republicans are doing us.

On the rational side, I guess it is just as easy to ride it out until after the elections and than kick his ass out.

We could ask Gordon Smith of Oregon if he wants to use Barak's name in his political ad, he has to caucus with us and get Hagel to come over and caucus, then kick Lieberman out.

Then again Pelosi would probably say booting Lieberman out is off the table.

2. Here's what I would LOVE to see.
Holy Joe takes the GOP nod for VP (it could happen), Obama/??????? cleans McCain/Liberman's clock in the election. The democrats pick a big chunk seats in the senate. Good bye Joe, you gotta go!

3. And Holy Joe will be replace with a Repub until at least 2010.

Not really an option, as a real repub would be appointed by Jody Rell.

4. I think Joe as McCain's VP could very well be an "October Surprise."
And yes, there would be nothing sweeter than to see Obama hand McCain and Robin the Boy Wonder their ASSES.

5. Six more months folks, until we get a real majority of Senate seats
After that, it's open season on Joe.

We may get a new majority leader (Chris Dodd, anyone?)

Joe gets kicked to the curb, stripped of his chairman/vice-chairmanships and gets shit assignments hereafter.

In short, he gets his nuts cut off in an exquisitely karmic way.

Come December 2008, Joe. Is. Fucked.
