Given the same script, could Bad news Bears be made in the here and now?
I watched the original Bad News Bears last night for the first time since it had hit the theaters. I imagine I was only ten or eleven back then (1976 I think). I remember it as being funny, but I certainly don't remember it as risque as it was when it came to minorities.

Given the same script, could this movie be made today? Would the producers even think of touching it with a ten foot pole? Like Blazing Saddles, it appears to satirize the holder of the stereotype rather than the stereotype itself, but I may easily be wrong.

Here are some selected quotes from the movie gleaned from IMDB...

Tanner Boyle: All we got on this team are a buncha Jews, spics, niggers, pansies, and a booger-eatin' moron!

Ahmad Abdul Rahim: This is for Allah. And it's goin' way out there, sucka.

Coach Morris Buttermaker: There was nothing easy about those fly balls, Ahmad. They were tough chances! The sun was in your eyes!
Ahmad Abdul Rahim: Don't give me none of your honky bullshit, Buttermaker. I know they were easy.
Coach Morris Buttermaker: Let's not bring race into this, Ahmad. We got enough problems as it is.

Amanda Whurlitzer: We could use a good outfielder on our team
Kelly: Oh you call what you got a team?
Amanda Whurlitzer: What you got against baseball anyway?
Kelly: Well the baseball you guys play is for faggots and old farts with nothing better to do with themselves.
Amanda Whurlitzer: Well you must like those kind of guys you sure do hang around the field often enough!
Kelly: There's nice ass at the field, that's why I always hang around it.

Cleveland: Goddamn class action suits are gonna be the ruin of this country. It wasn't so bad when the courts made us take girls. At least the ones that came could play, but now this.

1. Not sure about the same script, but the 2005 BNB wasn't exactly a "clean" movie...

It was loaded with controversial topics/quotes, all for the sake of humor. Im not sure how much racism it addressed though. It was more about misfit kids, alcoholism, inappropriate (but funny) situations a drunk coach put the kids in.

I never saw the first one though so I can't compare (saw Blazing Saddles though).
