2. Interesting question. A different question would ask "How does the NRA feel about Bush's assault on
the 4th Amendment?"

Note, the NRA focuses on a single inalienable right, the right to keep and bear arms although Republicans like LaPierre have misused their position in partisan-Republican ways.

In contrast, ACLU says:
Majority power is limited by the Constitution's Bill of Rights, which consists of the original ten amendments ratified in 1791, plus the three post-Civil War amendments (the 13th, 14th and 15th) and the 19th Amendment (women's suffrage), adopted in 1920.

The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:

Unfortunately the ACLU does not support the individual right to keep and bear arms saying:
ACLU POLICY
"The ACLU agrees with the Supreme Court's long-standing interpretation of the Second Amendment that the individual's right to bear arms applies only to the preservation or efficiency of a well-regulated militia. Except for lawful police and military purposes, the possession of weapons by individuals is not constitutionally protected. Therefore, there is no constitutional impediment to the regulation of firearms." — Policy #47

I'll join any group criticizing the NRA for getting involved in partisan politics but I also expect those people to criticize ACLU for not honoring its promise to defend the Second Amendment.

NOTE: I've been a loyal member and supporter of ACLU for several decades.

4. Talk About A Non-Issue and a 10th Day Wonder
Doesn't seem that long ago, LaPierre was constantly on the tube and the concern trolls in the corporate media made a big stink in 2000 how gun owners and the NRA would hold the balance of power. Some will argue they did. The NRA seemed like a juggernaut that would play kingmaker with their own man inside the White House (which I'm sure they have)...but where's the juggernaut? 9/11 changed everything.

You rarely see any mention of gun control...and then it's usually in the corporate media's quick broadstrokes on yet another massacre. Guns have been trumped by terrorists and gay marriage and illegal immigration and lapel pins...it's an issue that has played out as people are either pro or con...there are few in the middle here. It's political mileage has worn thin...even with the GOOP.
