Everyone agrees we need more oil. What's the best way to address the situation? * 5105 responses

End the ban on offshore drilling -- 44%

Force big oil to drill more in areas they already control -- 7.4%

Forget drilling. Fund alternative energy -- 48%

Not a Scientific Survey. Results may not total 100% due to rounding.

6. EVERYONE DOES NOT AGREE we need more oil. We need LESS and we need to use..
..multiple alternative sources of fuel and energy INSTEAD.

8. This is a poll that demonstrates the significance of how the issue is "framed".
We do NOT NEED more oil. We need to REDUCE OUR DEPENDENCE ON OIL for energy.

We need to switch from using the very wasteful and inefficient internal combustion engine to the much more flexible and efficient electric motor. Battery-electric powered vehicles are more efficient, cheaper to operate and maintain, and can be "recharged" using renewable energy sources such as wind and solar energy.

We need to rebuild our mass transit infrastructure. Rail travel for people and goods uses much less oil and costs less.

We need to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. The miniscule savings to the American consumer due to lower labor costs is offset by higher transportation costs due to transporting raw materials, parts, and finished goods between factories and the consumers.

Moreover, the huge trade debt caused by the offshoring of jobs reduces the value of the dollar further boosting the cost of imported goods including oil. (It is called inflation.)

An additional benefit of reducing the demand for oil is much less pollution and a healthier environment. Then there is all that money we save not having to enrich the oil companies and OPEC.

11. I'm amazed they included alternative energy after that "everyone agrees" frame.
I voted. The percentages are still the same.
