I'm impressed. A (reasonably) fuel efficient supercar.
The Corvette ZO6.

Here's the window sticker. That gas mileage is amazing considering it has 505 HP and can reach a top speed of 195 mph. Every other car in this category gets hit with a gas guzzler tax. This car avoids it.

I'm not saying this is *the* car for the age, but you gotta admit. Not bad and a demonstration that we *can* do more with less consumption if we wanna. Of course, the car also costs north of $100K.

1. They've taken a lot of weight out of it.
Lot's of race car weight saving technology in that thing.

Still 16mpg city 24 highway for something that light, means the engine is still one hungry beast.

2. pretty car, but 102,000.00?
can you imagine how much the insurance would be on it? I guess if someone can afford a 102,000 vehicle, they can afford the insurance. It is a pretty car, tho, and not bad mpg for a very tricked out sportscar.

4. I'm impressed by the 50% markup value by the idiot dealer.
Price gouging? Fuck you Chevy. I'll buy a Gallardo. Not only just to spite you, but to have a Lambo.

And THAT comes from a 'Vette freak.

Oh, and the Corvette gouging ain't done. $400k ZR1? Good luck.

7. Lamborghini is owned by Audi...buy away

:)

I own an Audi and I'll still admit that BMW has been the king of German performance cars for years.

Combine Audi Quattro technology and a Lamborghini technology and you get the Audi R8

...and it'll beat the pants off of a Corvette.

10. And the R8 is a brilliant car.
Not much along the lines of a beauty queen, but still quite brilliant.

Looked at the A3 quite a bit, myself. Good cars, those Audis.

11. Try a 2001-2003 S8. 360HP, all the toys...and under $21k.
I was shopping for a car two years ago. The S8 cost me less than a new Honda Accord.

More than the speed, it's the incredible feeling of solidity that has me hooked. It's an amazing car.

LESS than an Accord? This is an AMG killer.

Let me guess. It came with the pole it was wrapped around?

16. There's a 03 with 75K and a tricked out interior on ebay for 16K
They drop value like rocks. Two 07s are there, too. 75K each.

17. Mint condition. 54k miles.
For some reason, Audis depreciate quickly. The dealer sticker on my car (the dealership that sold it to me was kind enough to include it) is $78,300. It's Audi's flagship sedan, so they lose money on every one they sell.

Check out www.AudiWorld.com . There's a lot of good info there.

It's a gas hog (17MPG mixed driving, 22MPG highway) but it's a joy to drive. I mean pure joy.

19. Of course they depreciate like that.
They ARE forever tied to VW. And the 5000 forever hurt them. The big advantages that Merc and BMW don't have to deal with. No matter how good the car is. You got a bargain, congrats.

It's sad. In my opinion, each of the Audi benchmarks are better than the equivalent (for the money) for the Benz/BMW counterparts. And the RS versions battle the AMG and M Series just fine.

I raced an A4 Quattro a couple weeks ago, and I was impressed that a "base model" was so quick.

BTW, the Acura NSX had the same problem. It's a Honda.

22. Agreed. I'm just happy that I get to reap the benefit.
BMW still makes incredible cars...but their performance cars are all rear-wheel-drive which doesn't work as well as AWD in snowy Ohio.

Mercedes used to make incredible cars, but now they make shit.

I almost bought a used M5. I'm sure I would have loved it in the summer, but the S8 has gotten me through two Ohio winters with no complaints (one night where the county had closed the roads but, because of my job, I had to be there).

24. Also agreed.
Kind of like being a smart bottom feeder. Buying based on performance and whatnot, not on marque. I like that my Mazdaspeed3 doesn't register until you line up against us.

I ran an ad asking people to give me a hundred bucks.

No one replied.

**I'm** the idiot. I didn't ask for enough, maybe?

12. How many has he sold at that?
That's a HUGE *if* you've left hanging out there.

The Z06 is a great car. But then one wanting American musclecar value could get a Shelby GT500 for $80k. Or, buy a year old Ford GT that would make that car look completely stupid for the same money.

Driving in and out of town my DH gets 26-28 MPG. We don't take that vehicle on trips so I don't know what it gets for highway mileage.

15. Don't get me wrong...it's a monster compared to what most of us drive.
It's also an oversteer monster.

The top-of-the-line Vettes are priced to compete against Porsches. The Corvette has more horsepower, a higher top speed, a better 0-60 time...but the Porsche will kick it's ass if the road curves.

I'm a purist. I like speed, but I demand driveability at speed. I'd rather drive my S8 than this Vette.

14. New Nissan GT-r is turning some heads. It has
outperformed the Audi R8, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, BMW M3 E92, Lotus Elise, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, the three current Porsche 911s (Carrera, Turbo & GT3), and the Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Car and Driver achieved a standing 1/4-mile time of 11.5 s at 200 km/h (124 mph). With a lap time of 7:29 on standard Japanese market tires, the standard-spec GT-R is currently one of the fastest production cars ever to lap the Nurburgring circuit.

I just ran out of road.

I'm in Ohio. Out west, 195 is definitely doable.

25. I don't get it.
This is good? You have to remember, this is under the absolute ideal conditions, tested in a lab. In the real world, you're looking at 10 city, 18 hwy. Driving really aggressively, which is the reason I expect many people get this car, bumps it down even further. Use a lot of air conditioning where you live? Down it goes. Tires not inflated properly? Down.

Even the fine print indicates 'actual mileage will vary' and results reported to the EPA had lows of 13 and 22. Like I said, I think it's even lower. But I don't imagine people who buy this car have fuel efficiency in their top five priorities.

26. The new mileage estimates are much more accurate
My PT was rated 23 city 25 highway and it got exactly that. With a new flash to the ECU & a tune up, it now gets 27 MPG on the highway.
