GOP reps. advised to avoid party brand

GOP reps. advised to avoid party brand
By MIKE ALLEN | 6/27/08 1:41 PM EST

A new playbook for House Republicans urges them to run essentially as independents, showing empathy for voters, emphasizing local issues and ignoring many traditional party campaign practices.

The advice for House candidates is part of an effort to minimize Republican losses in a year when voters are exasperated by the economy, the Iraq war and President Bush:

“Encourage Republican candidates to establish themselves in a personal manner, emphasizing local issues whenever possible.”

“Candidates have to have a positive alternative vis-à-vis their Democratic opponents.”

“Work to develop an issues matrix that is different than in years past and also shows a deep empathy towards the voters.”

The advice, from consultants to the National Republican Congressional Committee, was presented this week to House leaders, including NRCC Chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.).

1. Do you suppose they know what the word "empathy" means?
That sentence is entirely laughable.

2. "We won't admit it, but we're ashamed our ourselves." - Republicons

"...and for good reason: we've lied America into an Oil Profits Crusade that has killed and maimed thousands needlessly, we've trashed the economy and the environment with our greed, we've violated all norms of decency with our hyper-horny and hypocrital stance toward human sexuality, we are craven followers of draft-dodging chickenawk leaders and media propagandists who have treated America's honorable soldiers and veterans with disdain, we have supported the same kind of brutal and immoral torture that led to the death of Jesus Christ, and we have undermined the Constitution of the USA. Of course, that's just a start for a thumbnail sketch of our selfish and heinous philosophies and actions. Smirk.

"Therefore, we no propose that we henceforth pretend to be something other than what we really are. We have full confidence that our republicon-owned corporate media will go all out with propaganda to help us cover our perverted asses. Smirk."

3. Well, they'll certainly have their homework cut out for them!
...showing empathy for voters...

That in itself would require them to seek graduate degrees.

4. If you have to be told
to show empathy, something is already deeply, disturbingly wrong.

Obama is like Febreeze for stinky Repuke candidates.

8. I noticed the article said nothing about McCain
Does this mean Republicans will have to run from him, too?

11. It still seems to present a ticklish situation for Republican candidates
It's one thing for any of them to resign himself to an Obama presidency, but it's another thing to express that resignation. Even most people here would expect the most independent Republican to say to say anything other than, "by the way, when you vote for me, please vote for John McCain also."

On the other hand, Senator Smith in Oregon is running for re-election sounding like he wants to be Obama's running mate.

12. In their ads, you can't tell if they're Pukes or not. Ashamed of their brand. They should be. It
won't work. Hopefully, the entire country is on to them and will vote them out at every level. rec'd

13. In other words, lie about who you are. Pretend to be someone else.
Oops, that is the Republican way. "Compassionate conservative," anyone?

15. Here's a perfect example:
Dino Rossi, the Republican candidate for Governor of Washington state, is choosing to run as "GOP Party" for his second try.

Note, he also has a "progressive" transportation plan:

I especially like the ghost salmon jumping across the car in the image.

16. Time for them to hire a bunch of PR consultants to give them a crash course in how to show empathy.

17. How The Worm Has Turned...
It wasn't long ago that any Democrat running here in Pleasant Valley Sunday would never put a party affiliation on the billboard...and some even went as far as to use red in their ads. These days it's the GOOPers who are putting out ads in blue and avoiding identifying themselves. Yep...the brand not only is ruined, it's an embarassment.

Other than the boilerplate GOOP talking points like "tax cuts" and "national security", the GOOP has ZERO to run on this year and lots to run from. The corruption has piled so high and deep...the emptiness of their rhetoric in the results of 7 1/2 years of GOOP domination has all but proven how destructive giving repugnicans any measure of power has become. There are NO achievements GOOP congresscritters can bring home this year and all they have to go with is fear...fear of A-rabs, fear of gays, fear of poor people taking away all your money, fear of the government taking away your guns...and most of all, fear of that uppity black fella. The projection this campaign season will be astounding.

20. IOW act and sound like a Democrat if you want to be elected.
“Work to develop an issues matrix that is different than in years past and also shows a deep empathy towards the voters.”

Whatever you do, don't say you will behave like a Republican and initiate Republican Bills which have never ever ever showed any empathy with the American people.
