8. Right now it's 22nd for me too.

But after that, it's got to be the 21st. And I don't drink.

It's the one amendment that repealed the ONLY amendment that limited the power of the people. Every other amendment is there to expand the rights of ALL of the citizens, not just a few.

The Constitution and its amendments should only be used to expand the rights of the populace, never to limit it.

Flag burning, marriage and abortion limitations do not belong in the Constitution.

20. That would be in the planet's best interest, but not in the interest of the citizen.
If for some reason another Bush runs for office, it is not Constitutional to bar them. And it shouldn't be.

It reduces the rights of the people to make their choice. It allows somebody to manipulate the Constitution to bar other people as well.

You *KNOW* that somebody is going to try and bar gay people from office or something. So no, I don't support any exceptions. Even one for the Bushes.

11. we have allowed the gov't
to run roughshod over the constitution and our rights for so long i fear we shall never be able to take them back...unfortunately now the only answer seems to be a wholesale washout of the congress, administration and the bench...

15. I feel the first thing we need is a Toto to pull the curtain back...
...if people knew what was behind the policies, etc, I think it would encourage them to be involved.

And maybe then you'd get your overhaul!

14. The upcoming one that defines marriage
It's important to let people know that it's between a man and a woman.

So much more important than those other ones that came before.

(Can I just say how embarrassed I am to be living in the era that tries to tack that bit of stupidity onto the Constitution?)

The Twenty-seventh Amendment (Amendment XXVII) is the most recent amendment to the United States Constitution, having been ratified in 1992, 202½ years after its initial submission in 1789.

IX The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

The ninth (which isn't even listed in this poll) illustrates one of the concerns the framers had with any enumeration of rights.

One argument of Federalists against the addition of a Bill of Rights, during the debates about ratification of the Constitution, was that a listing of rights could problematically enlarge the powers specified in Article One, Section 8 of the new Constitution, by implication.

Sorry, but I refuse to play this game.

26. The Equal Rights Amendment
My favorite is the ERA. It is so simple and easy to understand.

Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

Oh, but it not ratified by the necessary 38 states and was never implemented.

It has been reintroduced every year since 1982. Maybe in should be a priority in the first Obama term to get this thig passed and ratified. ?????????????????
