Justice Antonin Scalia: Al Gore to blame for 2000 US election mess
The 2000 presidential election debacle was the fault of Al Gore, who should have followed Richard Nixon's 1960 example and conceded without legal action, according to the Supreme Court's leading conservative judge.

Richard Nixon, when he lost to Kennedy thought that the election had been stolen in Chicago, which was very likely true with the system at the time," Justice Antonin Scalia told The Telegraph.

"But he did not even think about bringing a court challenge. That was his prerogative. So you know if you don't like it, don't blame it on me.

"I didn't bring it into the courts. Mr Gore brought it into the courts.

"So if you don't like the courts getting involved talk to Mr Gore."

Justice Scalia insisted that his controversial decision, along with four other justices, to stop votes being recounted in Florida because the method was unconstitutional and it was too late to consider other options was "absolutely right".

He was speaking during an interview about his book Making the Case: The Art of Persuading Judges.

5. Jeeze, these guys just say whatever they want and to hell with
facts. I'd have to use my "way back" machine but it seems to me that it was the GOP that dragged this thing through the courts, just like it was a cadre of GOPuke hoodlums (many now in the Bush administration) who staged that "popular" demonstration to halt the count.

That was the point at which we should have realised we were facing a fascist takeover, not just a political disagreement.

7. Absolutely, you remember the former Sec of State for Gore wanted to keep the matter
out of the courts and the republicans under former Sec of State Baker jumped to the courts in this mess. Also, by blaming Al Gore, I think this should solidify in all of our minds the fact of the prejudice of this court. WTF isn't this in the US media anyway.

9. One would think that fat tony would keep his mouth shut. But since the corprat media won't call him
out, he is embolden to tell outright lies, knowing he can get away with it.

3. Probably true. He should marched into Florida with Federal troops
and seized the uncounted ballots under a "national security" justification.

But hindsight's 20/20.

13. Big Tony's Completely Off The Rails Now
...and for profit as well. Note he's out selling a book. That explains a lot of his more outlandish statements lately...especially in light of his role as supposedly being above partisan politics...the concept of an independent Judiciary.

That said, Big Tony is right about only one thing. Gore should have contested the whole state...but then the State Supreme Courts ruling to do a recount should never have been disrupted. It was outside the jurisdiction of the SCOTUS...so much so that the court ruled it as a "unique" ruling. Gore sure didn't ask for that.

Big Tony will be painted as the one who put the fix in for the boooosh cabal and it appears his recent statements are an attempt to distance himself from that legacy. It wasn't too long ago it was he who told us to "get over it". Sure seems he hasn't...especially when a buck can be made.
