Why did Obama pay Hillary's debt? What is the "Unity Tour"? |
|
Hi DU, I have been out of pocket the last four days or so. Thursday night we went out to get some dinner and I caught a glimpse of the television while going to the table. Obama was on and there was something on the bottom of the screen about Obama writing a check for her debt. Is that true? Why would he do that? What's up?
Then this morning I checking the greatest page and there are these "Unity Tour" posts... what is going on? What did I miss?
Earlier in the week I created a post about my spouse having open heart surgery July 1st and stated that I would only be checking in here and there as I could. So I appreciate your filling in the blanks for me. Glad you are here DU.
Peace.

1. He wrote her a check for $4600, which is for him and Michelle, and is the |
|
legal limit. Then she gave the same amount back to his campaign.

2. Yes. Obama has urged others to assist in retiring Senator Clinton's |
|
debt.
The response has been generally favorable with a view toward re-uniting former adversarial factions toward a fall campaign against the Pukes. In turn, Senator Clinton has urged many of her donors to be generous to Obama.
He's in a position to influence assistance toward her and is using it for that purpose and that general tide lifts many boats.

3. He did not pay off her debt |
|
Under campaign finance law, his campaign can only contribute $2000 to hers. He and Michelle each donated $2300 (the personal maximum). He is trying to get his donors to help pay off her debt.

4. She accumulated the kind of debt that leaves her vulnerable |
|
for the next Senate election cycle.
His participation in requesting people to help her out of debt accomplishes several things. One of which is to allow her to stay right where she is in the US Senate
