Just bought the material to freeway blog for around $5.00 |
|
Used bed sheet from thrift store $.50 14 in. plastic cable ties - $1.63 Kyrlon indoor/outdoor cherry red spray paint - $2.67 Duct tape - $1.00
I'm gonna run the duct tape along the long side of the bed sheet and then back it on the other to prevent rips. I'll burn grommets through the duct tape "stays" by heating a large nail and poking it through the duct tape. I'll make about four grommets and use the plastic cable ties to fasten my banner to the rail of a freeway over pass. I'm going with cherry red. because that catches peoples attention in an "alert" sort of way. Now the message:
ARREST George W. Bush THE WAR CRIMINAL
Any other message suggestions are welcome.

1. Get something to weight on the bottom if the bottom end is not attached. |
|
Sew good sized fishing sinkers or some metal nuts to the bottom. Otherwise the wind will be constantly whipping it around and make it unreadable much of the time.

3. Another tip, find a rural overpass over an Interstate. |
|
Not one where there is an exit or ramps with gas stations and convenience stores. So people don't tear it down. The people driving on the interstate who see it won't be able to find the overpass on rural back roads where the next exit maybe 10-20 miles down the road. That and the people driving over the overpass probably won't see your handiwork hanging over the side.

22. I've done this many times in several states and never had a problem |
|
Get in - get out. No problem!
As long as they allow the "Welcome Home (insert soldiers name here)" signs on the overpasses and flags, they can't object to political speech now, can they?
Don't know what your problem with it is, and if you have inside knowledge, why not share instead of bark "I know something you don't know"? :wtf:

21. In California it probably falls under the freeway graffitti laws--arrest, fines, etc. But go for it! |
|
I don't mean to discourage you, because I love the freeway blogger concept as free speech. Just be fast and surreptitious is all.
Gives new meaning to "Go play on the freeway" doesn't it? :hi: Have fun!

23. Cut air holes in the sheet |
|
BIG ones. That will allow the wind to pass through and not put too much strain on the sheet.
Although, cardboard and bungie cords are better, faster to attach, last longer, and less chance that they will fly off and land on a windshield too.
Just visit a local store that handles large appliance and they will be more than happy to give you all their cardboard shipping packages. Make one big sign or a brazillion little ones out of a regrigerator box!
Happy blogging!
