Just got back from seeing it. IMHO, they took as much from Idiocracy as they could in a kids movie, including the broken freeways, the pervasive mega-corp, the idiotic leaders, even the "electrolytes". Just amazing to see in a mainstream movie.

3. After all the glowing reviews I was disappointed - it was very |
|
boring and dragged in spots - and wayyyyy too long. I have come to expect more from Pixar.

5. I thought it was awesome. |

I think your grandkids will love it, it's very exciting. Only a jaded cynic could be bored, since it was full of action, adventure and beautiful animation.

To borrow from one review I read, it's a science fiction movie masquerading as a kids film. Now if you're looking for a laugh-a-minute comedy, then you will be disappointed. Certainly the most adult of Pixar's films, IMO. Obviously lots for kids too.

11. The OP doesnt make it very clear.. |
|
but he's referring to the Mike Judge film "Idiocracy" which has some of the same themes as Wall-E.

14. Yep. And I did really like it. |
|
But then I thought "Idiocracy" was one of the best movies of the decade.

Yeah, that's what's coming up.
It was a fair bit deeper than I thought it was going to be, but I thought it was pretty good. My 3-year-old was bored in a fair amount of spots, though. Oh, well.
Did you like the short they showed before the movie? I about died laughing!

15. Yep, the short had us rolling on the floor |

One thing I think is wrong with both visions of the future (Idiocracy and WALL-E) is that trash won't be left to be picked up, it will be hoarded and recycled with a vengeance as raw material prices go up.

of course, we're used to watching silent movies. there is a lot of physical comedy and subtlety in this movie, and if you're used to nothing but bombast you could miss a lot.
i think littler kids, under 7 say, might be bored. toy story it isn't...
the message in this movie isn't one that a lot of folks will want to hear. it may not do very well, but most movies that are intelligent don't anymore. i think it should win an oscar.

13. "Idiocracy" borrows heavily from "The Marching Morons" (1951) |
|
So did "Robocop" at least for media, etc.
