A senior IRGC commander says Israel will not dare attack Iran as it is well within the range of the Islamic Republic's missiles.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran's defense capabilities today, in particular its missile power, enable it to repel any possible attack," Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Commander Major General Mohammad-Ali Jafari cautioned.

"Israel is located entirely within the reach of our missiles. Our missile power is such that the Zionist regime, despite all its capabilities, would not be able to confront us," the top IRGC commander told the Iranian daily, Jam-e Jam, in an interview.

Maj. Gen. Jafari also argued that the United States and Israel would have to collaborate in order to engage in a military strike against Iran.

"It seems without the cooperation of the occupying regime of al-Quds, rhetoric cannot turn into action. Even though the US may believe it can unilaterally attack Iran, the US needs Israeli assistance," he added.

"This fact would be a deterrent factor for our enemy given the numerous vulnerabilities of the Zionist regime," Jafari continued.

"When a country comes under attack, it naturally uses all its capacities to confront the enemy," he said in reference to the country's ability to cut the stream of oil by closing the Strait of Hormuz.

"In case of an attack… oil prices will dramatically increase and this prevents the enemy from inching toward a military action against Iran," the IRGC commander continued.

The US and Israel have recently stepped up their rhetoric against Iran and are believed to be preparing the public for a war against the oil-rich country.

Maj. Gen. Jafari's remarks come after the recent release of a New York Times report quoting Pentagon officials as saying that over 100 Israeli F-16s and F-15s staged a maneuver over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece between May 28 and June 12.

Larijani cautions US on adventurism

Any act of adventurism by Washington in the Middle East will certainly incur a substantial loss to Americans, Iran's Majlis Speaker notes.

“The United States and Europe are constantly seeking to invent pretexts while the only solution to the Iranian nuclear issue rests on genuine talks with the Islamic Republic,” Ali Larijani said in Tehran on Saturday. He made the comments in a meeting with visiting head of the Iraqi National Congress (INC), Ahmed Chalabi.

He also observed that Iran will not allow its legitimate right to access peaceful nuclear energy be sqandered. In that context the speaker said any measure of White House adventurism in the Mideast will be detrimental to Americans.

Larijani said the establishment of stability and preservation of Iraqi independence and territorial integrity is a primary concern for Tehran.

Commenting on the proposed Iraq-US security treaty, he noted, “Through the status of forces agreement (SOFA), Washington is seeking to have a permanent presence of US forces in Iraq, as a source for creating tension throughout the Mideast.

1. I find it funny nobody mentions that Israel likely possesses thermonuclear warheads.
They could wipe out any attacker under a storm of mushroom clouds if they wished.

2. Why would the Iranian high command bring that up?
That kind of undermines the message they're trying to convey about being able to "repel any attack".

5. Mushroom clouds can spread - fallout and retaliation
I think it would be an extremely counterproductive move in all sorts of ways.

The Saudi Exception

In a move that defies all logic, Mr. Bush has offered Saudi Arabia nuclear technology. Given the Kingdom’s past attempts to gain access to nuclear weapons and its record on human rights violations, either his sanity is questionable or his motives, says Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich.

“There is nothing more dangerous than a resourceful idiot.” - Scott Adams.

Is Mr. Bush the idiot who attempts to be resourceful at the expense of world citizenry?

The Bush White House with its democratic war doctrine has threatened world peace and by using coercion and threat of war is bent on depriving Iran of civilian nuclear technology, even though Iran has not violated the NPT. Yet, in a move that defies all logic, Mr. Bush has offered Saudi Arabia nuclear technology. Given the Kingdom’s past attempts to gain access to nuclear weapons and its record on human rights violations, either his sanity is questionable or his motives.

Congress bills to limit US, Saudi Arabia nuke trade

Washington (Platts)--12Jun2008

Resolutions introduced Thursday in the US House of Representatives and the Senate seek to restrict US nuclear power cooperation with Saudi Arabia and instead encourage the development of solar power there.

Representative Edward Markey of Massachusetts and Senator Charles Schumer of New York -- both Democrats -- introduced the resolutions to overturn President Bush's support last month of building new nuclear power in Saudi Arabia, even though the country is home to the largest oil reserves in
the world. Furthermore, they said that the country should be developing solar
power at a massive scale, given its extremely sunny climate.

6. All sides in this remind me of the various European combatants prior to WWI
lots of chest-thumping and over-the-top rhetoric...and then an event occurs which locks them into a death-spiral.

ALL sides need to chill with the bravado and do some serious talking.
