I hate it when I do stupid things like this
was slicing some coleslaw to make some slaw, and yep, sliced my finger while at it

So here I am with some gauze pad and bandage. Looks stupid... but hey... direct pressure is the best way to do this

Oh and the slaw, was delicious...

Problem is, no biking today... I need that finger to switch speeds

:-)

And the day is oh so nice.

No matter, will do some coffee here and work at home

1. It's Saturday. Coffee is for Sunday. Have a nice glass of wine tonight. Or two.
That's my plan. An at-home Saturday night with a good dinner and good wine, then Sunday morning with French toast, coffee and the New York Times.

2. Don't drink so a nice latte is a luxury. Hey at least finding out that
writing is not going to be such a chore as I feared... or it would have been a pain. I write, that's what I do

3. I hate when something like that happens
A few years back I was preparing a sample of steel on a machine that resembles a router, but this one was for metals instead of wood. I saw that metal turnings were building up between the mill and the backside of the machine, so I reached out with a gloved finger to pull out some of them - while the mill was still rotating at high speed. The mill - sharp as the devil himself - grabbed my leather glove with tremendous force, sliced through it, and took a good-sized divot out of the side of my left index finger.

Even though I've been working with power tools since puberty, I suffered a momentary lapse in judgment that could have ended up much worse than it did. Despite years of training, I disregarded a lesson that had been reinforced countless times, and I felt really stupid for it.

I hope my tale of woe has been of some consolation to you. FWIW, I believe those slicers/shredders are inherently more dangerous than the mill I was operating. Hope your pain subsides soon.

4. I forgot the lesson of years from working with knives
and I lost respect for the blade

Funny, I changed from the shredder to the blade since the shredder was not working

And yes, it is funny. I took a divot out of my thumb...

Funny, I took care of it and just finished dinner

5. I can work magic with a knife, but get me anywhere near a mandoline...
and there will be blood spilled, guaranteed.

6. I Often Use 2 Knives (1 in Each Hand), and Keep My Fingers Outa There
Just because those chefs on the cooking shows can go chop-chop-chop that fast and never get their fingers doesn't mean *I* can.
So I use 2 knives and come at it from both directions (so whatever I'm cutting doesn't leave the cutting board).

Nice day for riding here too, I was just out.

7. Those chefs can't all the time
one day watching Iron Chef... I think it was bobby flay that did the same number I did... one of those that they actually ran twice on camera... Elton Brown was actually funny about it

I just got on my gazelle, I still needed the exercise. Oh and found I am in far better shape than I expected... the twenty minutes went by like nothing.

I used to be in trouble by seven

8. Next time, crack open an egg and place a bit of the shell lining over the cut
It acts as a second skin and will stop the bleeding pronto.

Hope your finger feels better.

9. Well it does, but I have to be careful about WHAT I put on cuts
So I did the usual soap, water, DIRECT pressure...

Of course you should have seen hubby's face.. he hates ICKIES

Taking aspirin, so no matter what I do it will bleed like a pig.

And it does feel better

Will take two weeks to fully heel, since I sliced a chunk out. Not deep enough to deserve a visit to any local ER though
