Palace of Justice - Court Room 600: 1945/2008 (pictures)
Went on a military history tour of the Third Reich today. Included a visit to the Dokumentations Zentrum, as well as a presentation at the Palace of Justice

Dokumentations Zentrum/Nazi Party Rally Grounds - Today

Back/arena/rally area/Coliseum

Used as a storage area now. There were abandoned grocery store buggies as well as assorted other items.

Front

Side of the arena/Coliseum/building

Today - Palace of Justice

From 1945

"On November 20, 1945, the trials against the main war criminals started in court room 600 of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice."

Note the door. The door lead to a tunnel that lead to the prison.

Today (and I do mean today)

The door remains...and it still leads to the prison, which is still in use. Court Room 600 is still in use as well.

The windows were closed and all natural light shut out for the trials.

And for something totally different... this is located in the "old city" section of Nurnberg.

Entitled: "Ship of Fools"

4. Thanks, Solly Mack!
The children seem apprehensive about the ship of fools? Are they enjoying that or not?

8. Hi, brer cat!
Mostly the children were having fun chasing each other around it...or just sitting there resting and talking.

9. Nice going, Solly Mack!
You're in my part of the world now, do you like it?
I've always liked Germany, in spite of all the negative opinions regarding Germans (I'm Dutch, we've a nasty word for Germans that I never use).

Are you stopping by in Holland as well?

10. Hello, BB1. I love living in Germany!
Was in Holland a few years back. I did a historical tour of Amsterdam. Its history...how the canals were built....the buildings, etc. We are making plans to go back next year. Holland and Russia are on our list.

11. Have fun tonight!
It seems Germany will win the Euro 2008 tournament, what do you think?
And do understand correctly that you actually live in Germany? Great healthcare at our neighbours'. They make more with less. Much better than the Dutch system, to be excact.

12. I'm going out in just bit to get a good seat at the coffee hut to watch the evening unfold
Festivities start at 2 (rides, games, beer tent, food, etc.) and will go on into the wee hours of the morning. Either way, Germany will be celebrating...just a matter of degrees is all. :)

I've been living in Germany since 2004.

13. Ein Grosses Fest heute Abend!
Toll!

We had to learn German in High School (of course) and afterwards I spent some years in the army, also in Germany (Seedorf). I can speak it a little. Enough to buy me bread and beer:)

Too bad about the Dutch, though. They played really well, but then they just sort of lost it against Russia.

Will you stay in Germany? When disaster strikes the USA (again) in the form of elections or facism or both, will you leave Germany?

14. Massive...I'll be the one drinking

Actually, everyone at the coffee hut will be....(it's why we go to this particular coffee hut)

We're hoping to remain here for as long as we can. We could always change our minds - but we haven't yet. :D

15. The last picture of the Ship of Fools is not so completely different.
We, like people of Germany during the 30's and 40's and the events that led to the trials there, are currently riding such a ship.

21. Saddest thing of all? Heads of the Nuremburg trials going on to torture for the frickin CIA...
That's where a bunch of our problems are coming from: they Trial Doctors were so outraged by the evil of the Nazis that they decided "Oh we must find the root to the problem of human cruelty! Aha! It's weak-minded people!" Well, that's what good ol' Dr. Ewen Cameron decided anyhow. He realized that the weakness and orthodox and timidity--particularly of women-- was the root of all social ills. That's when he started "depatterning" his mildly anxious patience for the MK Ultra experiments.

The other problem seemed to be that some of these folks (I think Estabrooks sat on this committee too) thought that the US must go to any extreme in order to safeguard itself from such Radical Evil. The Nuremberg Trial Ethic "The degree of risk to be taken should never exceed that determined by the humanitarian importance of the problem to be solved by the experiment." has ended up trumping all the others
