FAMILY IS WIPED OUT BY US

Thursday 26th June 2008

BAGHDAD: Six members of a family were killed yesterday when a US jet destroyed their house in Iraq.Four children, aged between four and 11, were among the dead in the attack near the northern town of Tikrit, Iraqi police said. However, the US military made no mention of the civilian deaths and said the house was attacked after troops took small arms fire.

4. I like the way you worded that.
When I saw the that "six members of a family" were in Iraq, I thought; "Oh".

5. It's just getting so tiresome
And it's almost gotten to the point where I don't want to post in these threads, because the dull sameness of the results of using violence as our main tool for diplomacy, foreign policy, and treating with people just gets so mind-numbing. First Timothy described it so aptly in a slightly different context as having one's conscience seared over as with a hot iron. You just don't feel quite the outrage after the hundredth or thousandth instance of watching our military exterminate human beings who are unaware of their mortal peril until it's too late, who can't get away, can't fight back.

But the aftermath is dependably nauseating, as the military exonerates its own, hands out medals all around for the massacre, and the usual grinning idiots wave their flags and cheer.

6. a million Iraqis killed?
two million displaced?

And so few protests in the U.S.

Italy, France, or Germany would stop business to get the govt. back on track.

10. which is why we need to do away w/the Fairness Doctrine
right?

When Europeans protest in a capital city, thereby shutting down its major functionings, a Fairness Doctrine isn't needed to get it reported.

It's like the soccer tournaments....it amazes me how Europeans can unite behind a team, or a cause, so quickly and affect the rest of the population. I guess it's due to close living quarters.

I really appreciate those brave enough to speak out against McCain wherever he's giving a speech. I love Code Pink for the same reason. These folks all know that you don't need the entire country involved to get attention--just speak your democratic mind in a public forum.

11. They might be, and then they'll likely be proclaimed "innocent."

13. More likely, they'll be proclaimed heroes and given a medal.

14. I guess the Iraqis figured that out early on

when they meted out their own punishment against US contractors by killing them and hanging them from a bridge. Then the villagers got "nuked" with white phosphorus in retaliation, and now Fallujah lies in a ruinous heap, an "incident" which will forever remind me of the French village of Oradour Sur Glane, only with more efficient weapons on the part of the perpetrators.
