"Somehow, I just don't feel fresh"...WalMart saves humanity by redesigning its logo
Wal-Mart to revamp logo on its stores
Changes will be begin in fall, company says it’s part of effort to refreshen

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25445674/

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The familiar logo of the world's largest retailer is getting a makeover.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Sunday the company will begin replacing logos on the front of its U.S. stores with a new design beginning this fall. Wal-Mart spokesman Kevin Gardner said the change would reflect changes customers already have seen in some store signs and advertisements.

"This logo update is simply a reflection of the refreshed image of our stores and our renewed sense of purpose of helping people save money so they can live better," Gardner said in a written statement.

Gardner said he had no other information about the change. However, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday that the new look would include eliminating the hyphen in the company's name, now shown as a star at its more than 3,600 U.S. stores. The new logo would show company's name in white letters on an orange background, followed by a small starburst, the Journal reported, based on an artist's rendering filed with planning officials in Memphis, Tenn.

1. I truly dislike the color orange
Except when it's in nature, like a flower or a sunset or something, I have an active dislike for a color. Orange is that color, and now I have one more reason to hate Wal-Mart (I guess that's now Wal*Mart).

4. Orange was picked as the favorite color by patients at mental hospitals
Not sure where I heard that or if it's an urban legend, but I'm kinda with you on not liking orange.

btw, they will spend millions to change their logo - nice waste of mioney there. Not like they could spend it on employees or anything...

5. Me too!
Besides, orange reminds me of prison jumpsuits. Wonder if the "associates" will have to wear them?

8. Same here!
Orange is fine in nature, but an abomination anywhere else. I've never liked it and probably because I've never liked it, I've been stuck with it in a variety of ways most of my life. My high school's colours? Orange and white. The colour of my high school graduation robe? Virulent hunter-safety orange (and I had bright auburn hair. sigh). Enlisted in the air force and went off to basic training. The colour of our "flights" t-shirt? Orange.

I could go on.

Orange.

ick.

Commercials will feature the happy-go-lucky family living under an overpass and using cast off Wal-Mart items and packaging.

10. Here is the new logo, from the Wall Street Journal
Really, yes, not kidding:

The new white-and-orange logo came to light when it was used for a new store prototype proposed last week for a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Shelby County outside Memphis.

Chip Saliba, a manager with the Memphis/Shelby County office of planning and development, said engineers for the company told him that this was the new sign package that the company is unveiling soon. Casey Wilder, an engineer at Carlson Consulting Engineers Inc. in Bartlett, Tenn., confirmed the conversation.

thats why you see orange and orange/red used a lot in Fast Food.

http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-meaning.html

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

To the human eye, orange is a very hot color, so it gives the sensation of heat. Nevertheless, orange is not as aggressive as red. Orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an invigorating effect, and stimulates mental activity. It is highly accepted among young people. As a citrus color, orange is associated with healthy food and stimulates appetite. Orange is the color of fall and harvest. In heraldry, orange is symbolic of strength and endurance.

Orange has very high visibility, so you can use it to catch attention and highlight the most important elements of your design. Orange is very effective for promoting food products and toys.

Dark orange can mean deceit and distrust.
Red-orange corresponds to desire, sexual passion, pleasure, domination, aggression, and thirst for action.
Gold evokes the feeling of prestige. The meaning of gold is illumination, wisdom, and wealth. Gold often symbolizes high quality.
