Want some torture with your peanuts? Airline Passenger Bracelet
Edited on Sun Jul-06-08 08:05 PM by Ichingcarpenter
Just when you thought you’ve heard it all...

A senior government official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expressed great interest in a so-called safety bracelet that would serve as a stun device, similar to that of a police Taser®. According to this promotional video found at the Lamperd Less Lethal website, the bracelet would be worn by all airline passengers.

This bracelet would:

• take the place of an airline boarding pass

• contain personal information about the traveler

• be able to monitor the whereabouts of each passenger and his/her luggage

• shock the wearer on command, completely immobilizing him/her for several minutes

The Electronic ID Bracelet, as it’s referred to as, would be worn by every traveler “until they disembark the flight at their destination.” Yes, you read that correctly. Every airline passenger would be tracked by a government-funded GPS, containing personal, private and confidential information, and that it would shock the customer worse than an electronic dog collar if he/she got out of line?

According to a letter from DHS official, Paul S. Ruwaldt of the Science and Technology Directorate, office of Research and Development, to the inventor whom he had previously met with, he wrote, “To make it clear, we are interested in…the immobilizing security bracelet, and look forward to receiving a written proposal.” The letterhead, in case you were wondering, came from the DHS office at the William J. Hughes Technical Center at the Atlantic City International Airport, or the Federal Aviation Administration headquarters.

In another part of the letter, Mr. Ruwaldt confirmed, “It is conceivable to envision a use to improve air security, on passenger planes.”

This really is not a topic to make light of so just let me say, over my dead body will anyone put something on me that they can use to control me. Never. I would rather be shot than submit to something like that.

How completely nuts. Unbelievable. What's next? Handcuffs with waist and ankle shackles? Oh and don't forget the sensory deprivation hood and earmuffs.

I bet you that there will be some kind of "pre-clearance" that first classers could get to avoid this, and this becomes just another degrading humiliation reserved for those with too few zero's in their bank accounts.

Edited for clarity.

Edited on Sun Jul-06-08 09:07 PM by IDemo
Sure, this scooter looks silly. And the idea that it could frighten you with a helmet wearing officer riding it seems silly as well. You would be wrong. The T3 Mobile Defender is something that should worry you. It comes equipped with a powerful non-lethal air gun that could kill you dead if it hit you in the head. So, in order to avoid such a scene, the gun is equipped with a holographic sight system that makes it super accurate.

An eyepiece shows a red target dot, which is transmitted to a monitor, then to the gun. Barry Lamperd, the creator, says that as long as the holographic sight is on target, you can’t miss. That’s easy to say from his perspective. I hope he’s right, because they plan to sell the scooter to the US Army for crowd control situations. (In Iraq? Or are they expecting us to get uppity?) Expect to see it cruising your neighborhood before too long as well.

29. The Airline industry is already hemmoraging $$$$$$
Alaska doesn't take cash anymore because gasp....the stewards didn't like making change for US currency. So if you don't have a credit card or a bank card you won't be able to buy anything on the plane.

Some airlines are talking about charging for pop/soda etc.

Security sucks and people are sick of the gestapo.

Now the DHS proposes this Nazi like idea...to litterally brand people with a bracelet.

Never mind the concession people who have free access to the airports once they are in.

Never mind the baggage handlers who are allowed to rifle through our unlocked luggage because the DHS is too stupid to figure out how to scan all of our luggage.

Americans not only will not be able to afford flying at the rate it's going, but Americans will simply choose not to fly.

Hey if you want your US industry (with the exception of the Oil industry of course) ruined by the US government go to the DHS...they can help you along the path to failure.

36. this HELPS the TERRORISTS!
ever lame-brained idea they come up with involves preventing the typical republican moron's teenage kid from hijacking a plane.

yes, the unruly teenager could be jolted into submission and the flight could happily continue without unruly passengers even if the in-flight movie sucks and they run out of johnnie walker.

however, if you're a remotely sophisticated hijacker, then you realize they the government has already done the hard part for you, which is figure out how to control the hostages. now all the terrorist has to do is remove or otherwise defeat their own bracelet and seize control of the bracelet system. this could be accomplished quite easily with the help of someone on the inside.

this is a crowd-control system, not an anti-terrorism system. crowd-control is a part of hijacking, not a part of hijack-prevention.

that thinks 9/11 would have been prevented if: 1)we had a competent President that actually read memos stating that "Bin Laden determined to strike the U.S." and 2)securing the cockpit doors would prevent any terrorist from gaining control of the plane, even if this doesn't prevent hijackers from hurting passengers (if push comes to shove, it sucks to be the passengers, but the safety of the plane itself is ultimately more important)

You know, in the end WE OWN this Nation and fuckheads like these, because they DO want our Precious Dollars.. Like the Union days of old, we'd best all hang together or surely they will hang us separately :)

55. What airlines serve peanuts anymore?
or any snack for that matter? I thought the airlines had all turned no-frill. No lugggage, no food, no drink, unless you pay for it.

93. We got Soylent Green on a cross-country flight (AirTran)
Okay, they called them "biscotti", but they weren't fooling anyone. Everyone got three of these individually wrapped flat, dry things whether they wanted them or not. Three times, if I recall correctly. They just kept flinging them at us.
:puke:

57. I already wear a bracelet, thanks.
I have to wear my medical alert bracelet, as do many of the rest of us, and we don't need another one, thanks. Especially not one that could kill us.

59. We are not supposed to get angry
when the quality of our lives has been ruined. Healthcare, travel, cost of living, food supply all are going down the toilet. Does anyone here wonder when people are just going to have enough? If these draconian methods are put into place, there's going to be an eruption, people dragged away, and I am sure there are policies and jails just waiting for this to happen.

I want to have hope, but WTF!! How are we supposed to have hope when these f*cking hi tech devices are being produced to be used against Americans? Sorry, I took the red pill and there is no antidote.

72. This Paul S. Ruwaldt guy is apparently a danger to us all.
In a sensible society, he would be fired from the DHS immediately, and he would be barred from ever working in government again. (He should also probably get psychological testing.)

73. Eeek.
Well, the device is for real, at least there's a patent for it...

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/y2006/0244613.html

Nope. I wouldn't even put one of those on my dog. If I had a dog. But I'm just saying... if I had a dog, I wouldn't put one on him.

Eeek.

No way, no how, is anyone making me wear on of those. If it comes to that, just shoot me and get it over with, because I don't want to live in that society. :grr:

80. I'm thinking they'd be buying that one for transporting criminals and such about, much like
a house-arrest ankle bracelet. Sticking that on every passenger would be enormously expensive and inconvenient.

90. Scary, scary stuff
I hate that I don't believe we can trust our government to not abuse this. Hell, I hate that our government would ever even CONSIDER something this heinous. What the hell has happened to us? Like sheep to the slaughter we just let it happen.
