4. I already did --
a week or so ago (when I actually phoned all 50 Dem Senators plus my two Repubs), and today when I called my two Repubs again.

The Dodd/Feingold/Lahey amendment hadn't been introduced when I called before, I don't think -- or in any event, I just called to ask them to vote against FISA.

Today I called to ask them to support the amendment.

I'm sorry to say that Dole's office told me she is FOR immunity. (Surprise :sarcasm:)

Don't know Burr's stance on it, but I'd bet money it's the same as Dole's.

7. The vote on cloture was taken before the break, right?
(I'm still learning my way around the myriad of steps.)

Do you think the amendment will pass?

Only Fifteen voted against cloture, I wonder if that's an indication of how the amendment will fare?

11. Did you see the info on the Congresspeople
who changed their votes (from previously) and supported this bill? The majority of them had had an increase of contributions from the telcos.

I wonder if that's the same in the Senate.

My congressperson was one of those who voted to support it. Always before when I've written him, I've received a quick response. This time, I wrote and cited the info about his contributions from the telco (and I told him they got him cheap- others had received more) - didn't hear a word back. I actually wrote him two e-mails -- one with that info, one without, just asking how he could justify his vote. Crickets.

This just makes me SO angry!

9. It will probably be closer than 80-15, but
not close enough to cause anyone to lose any sleep. This is a done deal.

10. The problem is,
they have us over a barrel. Congress, too.

We can't vote them out and risk getting Repubs in there (especially in the Senate), and they know that.

This is SO WRONG.

Wonder if McCain will drag his ass in to vote this time.

12. No votes on Tuesday:
Senate to pause for Helms funeral

The Senate will hold no votes on Tuesday to accommodate lawmakers attending the funeral of Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.), who passed away on the Fourth of July.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the announcement on Monday, saying the chamber will delay a vote on controversial electronic surveillance legislation until Wednesday morning, to accommodate lawmakers journeying to Helms’ home state of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Hayes-Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, where Helms was a longtime member.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Reid took time to remember Helms, saying he was surprised by how quickly he warmed to his Republican colleague, given Helms’ controversial views on many issues.
