FISA DFA asks you to call Reid to put a hold on FISA. I called. The staff says |
|
hundreds of Democrats are calling from all across the country, and all are saying NO to FISA>.
Here's the number and the message:
Today may be our last chance to stop senators from voting to pass the so-called FISA "compromise" bill.
Last week, thousands of us called our own senators. Thousands more DFA members personally delivered our message to senators at their district offices. And tomorrow every senator will receive DFA petition signatures from members in their district demanding they stand up to President Bush and vote against the "compromise."
Yet there is still one person who can stop this bill today: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Call Senator Reid right now and demand he pull the FISA "compromise" bill which will lead to retroactive immunity for telecommunication companies who spied on Americans.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Washington DC: 202-224-3542
If the DC number is busy - Try reaching his district offices: Reno Office: 775-686-5750 Vegas Office: 702-388-5020
CLICK HERE TO REPORT YOUR CALL
Suggested script: "I'm calling to ask Senator Reid to use his power as Senate Majority Leader to pull the FISA "compromise" bill from the floor which will ultimately grant retroactive immunity to telecommunication companies who spied on Americans."
This is it. We have stopped President Bush from getting his way and letting AT&T and Verizon of the hook four times.
It is up to us to stop it again.
Thank you for taking action. Thank you for everything you do.
-Charles

8. If only it were possible. Incumbent Democrats are untouchable in the primaries. |
|
That's politics as we know it. It is nice to dream but our short term strategy should be to replace all republicans with progressive Democrats. Long term strategy is to build from the bottom and get progressive politicians in the system to be ready when the incumbent Dino's decide to step down.

16. No they're not. Lieberman was almost thrown out on his butt |
|
What people need to do is go after every single one of them at the same time so they can't concentrate their forces and money anywhere.
If we have to wait for them to step down, nothing's ever going to change.

22. I do appreciate your enthusiasm. I mean it. No sarcasm. BUT |
|
the only example you can come up with is Lieberman. The exception that proves the rule. Lieberman's challenger had lots of personal wealth. That is a necessity because you will never find big money willing to sponsor a challenger to an incumbent. Secondly, the Democratic party will never help a challenger to an incumbent. Even after Lamont won the primary, the Democratic Party backed Lieberman. Many Democratic Senators supported Lieberman over Lamont. Also, the challenger has to be willing to buck the Party. Not many are willing to do that. I live in Washington the State. When Sen Cantwell (who voted to give Bush the power to invade Iraq) last ran for reelection, she had a progressive anti-war opponent. Although he was only getting about 5% in the polls, she still bought him off. He quit and went to work for her. Can you spell sellout.
I truly wish there was a way, but there isn't.

2. I'm 100% behind this action. |
|
I make a distinction between Democrats lobbying their officials to vote against telecom immunity or aspects of the FISA bill and criticizing Obama for not being everything some would have him be on this issue.

No matter what Obama does about virtually anything, I bet somebody here will be pissed about it.

and giving corporations immunity for breaking the law. I am less pissed about his turn on gun laws, because that is not so fundemental.

19. No, if this was galactic, Obama and McCain are not even in the same galaxy. |
|
There is no chance with McCain. None. Obama understands about what it takes to get elected because if he fails, we all get McCain.

|
Can't we have them arrested for not upholding their oath of office?
I called and talked to some guy in Reid's DC office. Don't think it will do any good, but I did.
I also called Webb's office--my senator.
Where's Boxer on this?
