Who would be a better speaker of the House?
Pelosi has been a damned disappointment. I think she has lost her privilege to lead the House and frankly, I am disappointed she won the primary. She should have lost and lost big time. What is sad is Pelosi will win in November and it will be "more of the same" with her. Does anybody have any names to throw out on who could be better as a House Speaker? Personally, I would like to see Dennis Kucinich as Speaker. Maybe impeachment will be on the table then!

John

9. And according to Lewis Black we also need to elect a dead president. LOL
I didn't like his choice of Raygun though, but his reasoning for choosing him was that every day we woke up, we never knew what the fuck he was going to do, and neither did he. I think he was mainly hunting for easter eggs hidden over 30 years ago.

him soon. Ironically, I was in Chapel Hill the same day my dog died that morning and Lewis Black was there but I was there to meet Stephanie Miller at the Franklin Hotel, so I missed that performance.

7. Linda Sanchez
Edited on Mon Jul-07-08 07:39 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
Administrative Law subcommittee Chairwoman Linda Sanchez is the one along with Conyers leading the effort to get Rove to testify. She doesn't have a lot of seniority, but she's usually on the right side of the issues.

Of course I'd like to see Kucinich get it, but our ignoble media have done their best to portray him as a lunatic. On CNN, right after he read the articles of impeachment, they showed Kunich along with footage of UFOs in the background and with comedic Keystone Cops type of music covering his marathon effort on the floor of the House. It was one of the most disgraceful things I've ever seen a news nutwork do to a politician legitimately elected by the People.

8. Cong. Maxine Waters! She would burn the frikken house down!
Also, Cong. Marcy Kaptur of Ohio...........I've seen her speak on energy issues on C-SPAN a couple of times and was absolutely floored by her forceful voice.

Cong. Wexler of Florida would give the neocons HELL!

14. DK would be an utter failure. He has shown no ability to form a legislative majority, or for
that matter any political alliances whatsoever, in his career. He has absolutely no significant legislative accomplishments to his name. He is notoriously incompetent with paperwork; he remained on the ballot in the MI primary because he botched the single form necessary to withdraw. His history of showboating and grandstanding has left him with no respect in either house. He is a gadfly, not a leader.

That said, I'd like Conyers. I think if he had the reins, he'd be able to actually get some shit done.

After all, DK has been deified here at DU. Religion is not a popular subject here, but don't mess with their God.

24. Me too, mostly for refusing to worship or not following along with the crowd.
You have to jump through exactly the right hoops and believe exactly the right way to be allowed to be a member of the club. It's funny because they like to trumpet their dissent, but they welcome no dissent from their dissent. Toeing the line is required. (Yes, I am being deliberately vague and cryptic just to make some wonder.)

17. Dennis Kucinich. He's a troublemaker, not a "politics as usual" patsy.
Unfortunately, the house is full of adherents of playing it safe and "practical" politics terrified of of the slightest ripple in the polls.

18. Even Kucinich Impeachment is nearly impossible.
The process of impeachment takes mere weeks, but the prep work and gathering support to have the numbers to carry it out takes months and with all of the House and one third of the Senate in the middle of election campaigns, I do not see it given more than just a passing thought, even by Kucinich.

22. Kucinich was well prepared to continue before the Impeachment articles were submitted and read.
Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 05:05 AM by crickets
Dennis Kucinich did his homework with more than a passing thought. He's not grandstanding; he's very serious about it. The Articles of Impeachment for both Cheney and Bush are not based on thin air. One only has to read them to see the background information and hard data that was collected, often from other government sources.

It doesn't take months to get votes; all it takes is the will. The poll numbers already show Bush's approval ratings in the 20's, probably lower than that given our untrustworthy media. Cheney is even less popular than Bush. If honest impeachment hearings were actually held, the public fury would be unstoppable, even given how beholden Congress is to lobbyists' bribes, cronyism, and complicity.

They know this. THAT is why, especially when it comes to complicity, Nancy won't put impeachment "on the table." All it would take is to get the articles on the table and on the air just for a few days and it would be a done deal. The house of cards would fall, and that scares the crap out of the Executive branch and at least eight Congresscritters to the point that all the rest* are being bought, blackmailed, or browbeaten into line.

The situation is disgraceful, but it has nothing to do with lack of preparedness or lack of evidence, or - given hard facts in the light of day - lack of votes demanded by an informed people.

*eta: I should say almost all the rest. Kudos to

23. George Miller!
I lived in his district (which includes DVC Jr. College where he speaks sometimes on political issues).
He's a EXCELLENT house rep and has done us great good in his many years of service!

i think as speaker he would do great things, he's liberal, and a real pit bull on peoples issues.

we could do worse, but, aside from DK I don't think we could do much better.
