I am not trying to bash the people of Washington D.C. but I would like to discuss what I consider as at least a little of elitism on the part of some people in Washington D.C. On two different occasions I have heard different people in Washington D. C. claiming that people outside of Washington D.C. do not care about or do not understand what is happening in Washington D.C. On the most recent occasion it was a discussion on the power of Vice President Cheney's power. A person was asking if Vice Presidents after Cheney would be able to have the same power as Cheney and if people in general would expect future Vice Presidents to do as much as Cheney has done in terms of power. Another person responded that we in Washington D. C. fall for the belief that people "outside of the beltway" actually know about what the Vice President does. The person went on to say that he was not sure if people outside of Washington D.C. currently know what the Vice President's job entails. On another occasion a person said just about the same thing in dealing with another idea.
I understand that people may be upset that I made a post after hearing just two people make the same comment. Yes, I have just assumed that more than just two people in Washington D.C. believe that people outside of Washington D.C. are clueless as to what happens in Washington D.C. I would like to get people to discuss this issue. Do members of DU agree with my idea, or do they disagree with my idea?

1. People inside the DC beltway have become so inbred |
|
and so isolated from the rest of us that of course they say we don't know what's going on inside the beltway. However, they really have no clue what's happening in the rest of the country, either, even if they visit from time to time.
The inside the beltway crowd of analysts and experts have managed to isolate, alienate, and render themselves utterly irrelevant. Sadly, they're still courted by corporate media who also don't want to recognize that the country is in trouble now and that they helped create it.
As for the bulk of people being clueless as to the official functions of various people within the government, that's true. Civics classes are universally boring, deplored, and quickly forgotten. It's only political junkies like those of us on DU who have an idea what this country is supposed to be and how far from that path it's strayed, led by the fascists in power and abetted by a corrupt media.
