How did Pelosi win the primary?
Edited on Mon Jul-07-08 07:51 PM by Cascadian
I asked this once before but she just continues to betray her House colleagues, her party, and her country. Yet, she wins 89 per cent of the vote in the district primary over somebody who's more of a progressive and a Democrat than she is. Is it all those champaign Democrats down there? You know? The people who earn $500k-1,000k a year and are just about the only people who can afford to live in S.F.. Those who drive around in their BMWs or Mercedes Benzes on their way to buy purchase a new boat so they can sail around the Bay. I am sorry if I offended some of you but the truth hurts. I am just diappointed with the lack of judgement of the voters down there. Who do you vote for now? Cindy Sheehan? What is really sad is that Pelosi has alienated you from her. When was the last time she had a town meeting in her district? When was the last time Pelosi actually listened to all of you?

Also, for the record, I did live in the Bay Area many years ago in the 80's. It was hoity-toity back then but not as pricey as it is now. I still love it there. It's just ashame me and other lower class "grunts" cannot live there anymore.

John

1. she got more votes

Maybe her constituency has a different definition "more of a Democrat" than the left does.

2. I have assumptions
Possibly they aren't paying attention to what is going on in politics and voted on name recognition.

Not only that, but Golub had no real media saturation and only 1 year to prepare, but still got 11% of the vote.

And Pelosi has been in that district for 20 years so some people probably voted because they feel connected to their 20 year representative.

And on most issues, Pelosi is still a dem and a progressive. Just not on the rule of law and the constitution.

Personally I would've voted for Golub had I lived there. But I do not.

4. Having the Speaker as your rep gives the district enormous clout

And no, they may not agree with her on every issue, but why replace someone you agree with 80% of the time for a freshman who won't know shit from their ass?

Do you think BART would get as much funding from the feds if she was not the Speaker?

5. Because her constituency disagrees with your assertions as to who a "real Democrat" is?

8. How did she win the Primary?
She was running against Cindy Sheehan, for Christ's sake! I do not think I ever saw a more disintrested candidate for Congress than Cindy Sheehan.

9. Cindy Sheehan is one of her opponents in November.
Shirley Golub was her Democratic challenger in the June primary.

10. Well there you go.
Who the hell is Shirley Golub? :) I do not see Sheehan as having any impact the election in November. She really has not done anything to move her campaign forward. I lost any interest in taking her seriously when she said one of her reasons for running was because she was going to impeach Bush. Yeah, right. She would take office and have less than 2 1/2 weeks before Bush left office at the end of his term. When she said this in a speech people were actually cheering. People! Are not thinking this all the way through?
