Afghanistan has been ignored for the last six years by the media, but today's suicide attacks show some signs of increasing violence and rising tensions as well.

I'm willing to believe Afghan officials that Pakistan's intelligence services was behind this. Pakistan is obviously dead set against India and Afghanistan forging any close relations. Pakistan wanted Afghanistan as it's little religiously fanatic puppet state, but since they basically lost control of Afghanistan (and much of their own territory), many of the same people are likely giving help to finance and mastermind such attacks.

Oh and what has Pakistan got the last several years from the most idiotic fucking administration ever?

7.2 Billion fucking dollars, for about doing the opposite of what they said they'd do.

Obama needs to hammer McCain over Afghanistan - and CONSTANTLY. McCain is dumb as a rock when it comes to the actual political and cultural happenings in the middle east and south Asia. His only extent of knowledge is on some military issues (at least in this area he can BS pretty well), but even there he's VERY limited. He knows nothing about the cause of the conflict and its underpinnings.

Actually, when looking at McCain, he's unassuming, but I'm starting to realize his thought process is about as shallow and vapid as Bush himself. And judging by his temper AND temperament, even more rash and impulsive. The signs of a true loose cannon and threat to our country!

2. "But on the bright side, the Afghan drug trade is booming. Smirk." - Commander AWOL

Note that the Surge in drug trade began just as Commander AWOL & his cabal of republicon cronies took 'command.'

http://www.theage.com.au/world/afghanistan-drug-trade-hits-4-billion-a-year-20080627-2y43.html

Afghanistan drug trade hits $4 billion a year

AFGHAN opium poppy cultivation grew 17% last year, according to the 2008 World Drug Report, released by the United Nations.

It continues a six-year expansion of the country's drug trade and increasing its share of global opium production to more than 92%. Afghanistan's emergence as the world's largest supplier of opium and heroin represents a serious setback to US policy in the region.

The opium trade has soared since the 2001 overthrow of the Taliban, which had eradicated almost all of the country's opium poppies. The proceeds from the illicit trade are helping finance a resurgent Taliban battling US and allied troops.

(snip)...
