More Sex Means Less Chance Of ED For Older Men
More sex means less chance of ED for older men

Mon Jul 7, 11:16 AM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - There's new advice for older men who want to preserve their sexual function: have sex, and have it often, researchers say. In a study that followed nearly 1,000 older Finnish men for five years, researchers found that those who were regularly having sex at the start of the study were at lower risk of developing erectile dysfunction (ED) by the study's end.

In fact, the more often the men had sex, the lower their ED risk.

The implication, say the researchers, is that men should be encouraged to stay sexually active into their golden years. Dr. Juha Koskimaki and colleagues at the University of Tampere in Finland report the findings in the American Journal of Medicine. The study included 989 men who were between the ages of 55 and 75 at the outset.

Overall, those who said they had sex less than once per week were twice as likely to develop ED over the next five years as men who had sex at least once a week. Furthermore, compared with men who had sex three or more times per week, their ED risk was increased nearly four-fold.

A number of factors contribute to ED development, many of which could also affect a man's sexually activity -- such as age, diabetes and heart disease. However, after taking account of those factors, sexual activity itself remained linked to ED risk, Koskimaki's team found.

It may be a matter of "use it or lose it," according to the researchers. Just as exercise boosts physical fitness, they note, regular sexual activity may help a man preserve his erectile function. ED occurs when there are problems with blood flow to the penis. Regular sexual activity, Koskimaki's team writes, may help maintain healthy blood vessel function in the erectile tissue.

- Okay. Now the BIG question. Will doctors be able to give prescriptions for all this sex we older men need? If so then I'd like a thirty-day supply of Halle Berry's.

For medicinal purposes. Of course....

2. And Remember, If Your Erection Lasts More Than Four Hours...
Could you imagine someone going into a doctor's office or the local ambutol and saying that's their problem? Especially to a cute looking nurse?

I still find it pretty sad when I see a group of middle aged guys sitting around playing guitars and singing the praises or their stiffie.

Now didn't I just read that Watermellon does the same thing as Viagra?

So now I'll take this article, show it to my wife and she'll tell me to get lost!

BTW...if your erection lasts more than four hours, find another woman!

And here's my new Viagra slogan..."when you positively, absolutely have to screw her".

"One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all..

FEED YOUR HEAD"

(With apologies to Jefferson Airplane for the misuse of "White Rabbit")

8. I Had Those Pills
Back "in the day"...and the last thing I thought about was a stiffie

I sorta saw them playing all sorts of lame 70's disco tunes...or, in the case of Bob Dole, it probably was the Rise of the Valkeries

13. So did I
My mood depended on which pill I was on. I did the whole "better living through chemistry" high school plan. Typing test? Speed. Sports? Acid (you'd be surprised how much better you pick up on subtle body cues). If there was an activity, there was a pill.

Disco tunes. Now I'm going to have Bob Dole and disco dancing connected in my head. Even worse, after Rachel's introduction to Oddball on "Countdown" last night, I have the Village People in my head. It's frightening to think of Dole in a polyester suit out on a dance floor dancing to "YMCA" with Bill "the self-proclaimed Disco King" O'Reilly.

5. Explains a lot about Bob and Liddy Dole
as well as a lot of other Republicans like that drug addict and alleged pedophile Rush Limbaugh. Speaking of Rush, someone should tell him that self-gratification doesn't count as sex for staving off ED.

16. I was thinking the same thing
Here is an explanation:

Men who have a stronger sex drive have higher hormone levels. Men who don't, have lower levels and, subsequently, ED.
