3. The people answering the phones in Congressional offices are usually underpaid and overworked
Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 10:15 AM by Freddie Stubbs
If they are paid at all. If it isn't an unpaid intern, it is likely a low-paid staff assistant.

8. There is only so much space in the offices, especially in the House
Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 10:38 AM by Freddie Stubbs
And although it isn't too hard to find qualified interns during the summer, it isn't as easy during the rest of the school year. DC isn't a cheap town live in, and many college students afford the rent, food and transportation to live away from home to work a job that doesn't pay anything.

10. They do not have to be on
capitol hill to answer phones these days.
Remember call forwarding? They could have people answering phones in their own homes pretty much anywhere in the country.
There is no excuse for them to not take their constituents calls.

I know. I stop by my US Senators constituent offices and I know the people by their first names,

These are very smart, very capable people.

Not unpaid interns.

6. It's "capitol" not "capital"
You use "capital" when referring to the city in which the "capitol" stands. The word "capitol" refers to the actual building in which a legislature meets. :hi:

17. Have some understanding
NEVER has there been such a crisis in American political life. A criminal President, Vice-President and Hell, the ENTIRE executive branch.

So, people look to their ELECTED federal representatives, their Congressmen and Senators. You know, the only ones they can RESPOND to.

And respond they do. I'd wager that the average number of calls to representatives have gone up, say 800% in the last 7 years.

And the systems that worked well in the past are woefully inadequate NOW with all the THOUSANDS of pissed-off constituents in each district or state.

I'd HATE to be a staff worker for a Senator today.

Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 09:43 PM by Canuckistanian
Canadian Press October 31, 2002
"It's the blame America first crowd," Buchanan said Thursday during his
two-hour show Buchanan and Press on the cable network MSNBC. "The Canadians
. . . have been defended by the United States, they pay nothing for defence.
"That place is a complete haven for international terrorists," he told
co-host Bill Press. "Even their own retired security guys say it's a
complete haven. We . . . need lectures from some people, not from Soviet
Canuckistan

mtgs held around the state and Feingold usually hits most of them. If he isn't there, I have left questions with aides and have always gotten a response within the week.

So I ask, what does he do differnt than the rest of them - - simple answer....HIS DAMN JOB is what.

Yay Russ.

Ms Wuss (Pelosi) and Mr. Wuss (Reid) can go fornicate with each other in Floruba and Mexifornia for all I care....wait, we don't need more of them from the shallow end of the gene pool. Sorry. Weak moment there.

If the government is going to pay people to do something, make it something productive like building windfarms, not listen to people gripe.

44. So each Congressperson and Senator is supposed to have a chat-line
of several dozen if not several hundred people trained to know that elected official's position is on every single issue such that they can field questions on all of them?

We have 535 people representing over 300,000,000 folks. Obviously, some filters need to be put into the communication lines or they will be overloaded. Your voice has the same weight in our government whether you deliver your message to you elected official via voice mail, email, or if there's some chat-line with a live person to make it seem more like you're being listened to. God fucking forbid we put substance over symbolism and use the most efficient mechanisms possible.
